Adjustable ring featuring a rose quartz cab

I opted to make an adjustable ring featuring a rose quartz cab. The cab measures 1″x1/2″.
After creating the bezel cup, I soldered it onto the pre-shaped ring shank.
Once it came out of the pickle, the stone was set, the shank shaped and final clean up was done! =)

Week 1-Some gemmy earrings

I was bionic Saturday and made four pair of earrings while watching a horror movie marathon on SyFy.  These were NOT inspired by any of the movies.  I was just in on of my teeny bead moods.  These are rose hydro quartz marquise shaped drops with tanzanite, pink amethyst and mystic quartz rondelles.  The post findings started as connectors.  I cut one of the loops off and soldered ear wires to the back.  Thanks for looking.

Large Scale Decorations

Today I had the opportunity to take a class in Mt. Vernon, just north of Columbus Ohio. The studio is called Hammer Song Farm. It was something very different from the classes I have taken before. It was a Welding Class. We used all sorts of great new tools to make a Kinetic Garden sculpture. We made butterflies that fly in the wind. Their wings move and the balance on a pole and can move with the wind. We began the aging process with various chemicals and once it gets outside, the patina will continue to get better and better.

While this isn’t exactly Jewelry, I am using this as my week 2 YOJ entry. Hey, it is jewelry for my garden.

I cannot wait to get this out to my garden this spring. For now, it will sit in my home where I can enjoy it and the kids can make it fly.

Marquise Series: Bead Cap 1 (2010)

Marquise Series: Bead Cap 1 (2010)
Sterling silver, fine silver
Constructed, cold-joined, woven
L 2.7 cm x W 2.6 cm

Last week’s project was about going beyond a simple marquise shape to a compound shape. This week, I’m going a step further and moving into working in 3D.

The original germ for this piece was a project I made in 2003 as a Secret Santa gift. The Cathedral Egg Pendant was made of two pieces, connected with bead links. Cathedral Egg was inspired by a piece, called “Gluttony”, which I had made for the “Heavenly Virtues/Deadly Sins” exhibition presented by Object Design Gallery the same year.

The ladder weaving here was very time consuming to do, but the effect is so nice!

I think this really needs to grace a fabulous lampwork bead by some superbly talented artist. The problem I’m finding is that I need a big bead: the base of this bead cap is almost (2.5 cm (1 inch) across. So, I’m on the hunt for something appropriate. It still needs to go into the tumbler to shine it up, but I wanted to get it posted.

Other views can be seen on my blog, a wrapturous blog. Thanks for looking!

Rewind button

I am actually off to a fairly decent start this year. I have just finished a few pieces today. The first is a “Rewind button” for a friend of mine that is going through a difficult time.

A New Beginning

Wonderfully detailed – carved jade flowers topped with dainty ruby rondelles are perched upon swirling silver framework, which has been painstakingly wrapped with fine wire. Below the organic swirls, enigmatic violet-blue iolite briolettes sway. To this has been added oval faceted rubelite garnet, and teensy peacock seed pearls. Finished with my signature curved ear wires, the New Beginning earrings have been heavily oxidised, and then selectively hand polished to reveal the glorious patina.

These measure 6.2cm or 2.4″ in length.

All metal is sterling (925) or fine (999) silver.

Anniversary Rings

This was a custom order for Anniversary Rings:

Excuse the polishing compound left on them – they need to be cleaned.

They are sterling and I hand cut their wedding date into the bands in roman numerals.

The date is November 25, 2008

In roman numerals XI / XXV / MMVIII

A patina was applied and a quick polish. They need to be cleaned so they can go in the mail in the next day or two to arrive prior to the anniversary of their first date which is in February.

Year of Jewelry 2010, Week 1

This week’s theme is Starting Over, which is, of course, apropos at the beginning of a new year. It also pertains to my piece this week, which includes several techniques that are still relatively new to me. This is only the third piece of this style I’ve made.

I shaped the paw of 16 gauge Argentium sterling wire in two pieces and fused it together before soldering it onto the brass sheet that I’d already cut and textured. I sawed out the paw shape, then riveted the brass sheet onto a piece of copper sheet I’d cut and textured. I turned the bail and then antiqued the entire piece, polished and tumbled it.
It was difficult to create the toes with such thick wire, so I’ll shape the paw differently next time. I’ve already got a new idea. Stay tuned!

Textured Copper on Sterling Silver with Lapis Set

Starting Over

Textured Copper on Sterling Silver with Lapis Set

Once the copper was annealed and textured, discs were punched from it. Sterling silver discs were punched just a little larger than the copper. I then sweat soldered the copper onto the silver, and followed up with doming the pieces. A frame was soldered to the larger piece, and fashioned into a pendant. The earrings had jumprings soldered in place. Finishing touches are the basket weaving, sterling silver beads, copper beads and faceted Lapis.

Purple Swirly

Beginning January 2010. Snowy and cold… nice white outside. This is the 1st time I’m inside Year Of Jewelry 2010 challenges. So in a fever of excitement, let’s say. But the show must go on…here I’m!
Purple Swirly isn’t complicated. This is a fun and easy project, has tons of possibilities for customization. Yup…it is Egyptian Coil! This technic is something what I like this moment. Simple chain that requires very few tools.
I made this bracelet and earrings last week. I use 20ga Beadsmith silver plated and Glass beads…in purple 🙂 Get applaus from my hubby…hahahahaha He is my best fans, beside my children LOL.
Sorry for not good picture. I’ll try to have better shot next time. Promise!
