YOJ09-22 Viking Knit Bracelet – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk22-VikingKnitTutBracelet Viking Knit Bracelet (2009)
Fine silver, sterling silver
Nalbinding, cold connected
L 20.5 cm x W 0.4 cm

I’m hard at work on the tutorials for my class, so this week’s
project is the product of that work.  I’ve been doing a lot of
photography, and editing and layout.  I’ve been pretty much eating,
sleeping and breathing the project.  The first tutorial is finished,
and the second is well in hand.  Four to go… and six weeks until the
classes start.

More photos in my blog, a wrapturous blog.  Comments are always welcome.

Chalcedony Earrings

IMG_1200

I made a pair of earrings to go with the pendant that was posted previously. The bezels are made using sterling silver sheet and bezel wire. I then soldered a jumpring top and bottom of the bezel. To pull the look together a coin pearl hangs from the bottom. Instead of soldering posts to the back, I hung then from pre-made ball posts to achieve more movement while worn.

Thank you,

Week 22-Victorian Key Pendant

I have no choice but to post this as it's the only thing I made this week.  I swore I would never make this again but I broke down and did the tutorial for it.  It took about 40 hours of labor for this baby to be birthed.  It's very similar to one I did for a previous week but I did the shaft differently and was able to simplify the construction just a tad-although it's still not an easy project.  It's up in my Artfire shop if anyone is interested.  Thanks for looking.

Week 17-Viking Age-Viking Knit Weave

Week 17-Teal Viking This bracelet was made for a swap I participated in.  I find doing Viking Knit Weave very relaxing and it's very versatile.  I used some beautiful lampwork beads made by Alana from Flameboyance Glass.

Week 16-An Affair to Remember-Love and Pearls

OK, I'm going to admit this…..An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr is my all-time favorite movie.  I know it's corny but I'm a romantic at heart.  This is a tear jerker but has a happy ending!!!

Week 16-Love ID I call this week's submission my Love ID bracelet.  It's based on a design by Ruth Rae, Lou McCulloch, and Catherine Witherell from  A Charming Exchange (I just love this book).  It has pearls and lampwork beads along with a brass sheet metal that I sawed and stamped with XOXOX's.  Added some dangles and Week 16-Love ID 1 charms for good measure.

Week 21-Copper Flower Necklace

Uh oh, late again.  This is something from my odds and ends box that I decided to do something with.  It was shaped from 14 gauge copper wire, soldered together and hammered.  The lilacs are in bloom here so I decorated the center with little CZ, amethyst and sterling silver 2mm beads, and added a chain.  I made a flattened spiral and wired that on the back to cover up the wires and make it look neater.  Of course, it was given an LOS bath.   Thanks for looking.

Week 21 Pearl post earrings

IMG_7494_edited-1 Post earrings of sterling and FWPs.  I'm very pleased with how these turned out!  I originally intended to use a pair of round pearls, which might look a little better, but I'm still very happy with these.

C&C always welcome.  More details available on my Creativity Journal.

Week 20

IMG_7506_edited-1 Simple pearl drops on hammered sterling earwires.  I think I'm keeping these.

C&C always welcome.  There is another photo of these on my Creativity Journal.

I will not be posting an entry for week 19.  I made a piece but wasn't happy with it and dismantled it without photographing it.  That was unintentional but I am content with the knowledge that I did make it in the first place.

Week 18 – experiment

IMG_7497_edited-1 I didn't actually expect this to work out so I didn't take proper care along the way to finish the surfaces.  This experiment was my first time working with a prong setting.  It actually worked out quite well!  I would change some minor things next time but I've worn this as is.

Sterling silver and CZ.

Middle Ages

Middle Ages is very interesting period of growing new traditions after ancient cultures. Nothing superbright, nothing explosive, only nature and faith. This pendand is very laconic and looks like amulet. Probably it is.
