Week 4- Memoirs of A Geisha
So, this was ready in time just not posted in time. I decided I wanted to do something a little different for the piece and took the initiative to research Tsumamai Kanzashi (hair adornment) of which there are many proscribed rules for. Using the tutorials generously provided here I opted for a modern version, using some scraps of fabric I had, a few cheapy pearl beads I had kicking around and that nice shiny new button. I used 22G sheet silver hand sawed, sanded and polished for the bira bira (the dangly bits) and wraped them on a piece of 18 Gauge wire. The petals are actually hot glued onto that foam sheet stuff you find in the craft section of your favorite retailer. I used florist wire to attach the flowers to the main body of the hair pin. Not traditional, but I like it anyways. Thanks for looking, and as always comments and critiques welcome and appreciated.
Week 4-Memoires of a Geisha-A Little bit of This….and That
I may have gotten carried away with it….but I love the results. It's a little bit of found objects…an earring, a charm from another piece of jewelry that's been staring at me asking me…"why haven't you worn me lately?" and some twists and turns of copper wire.
I made headpins on two pieces of 16 gauge wire, flattened the balled ends, and drilled holes in the flattened balled ends. Cut a piece of brass tubing and inserted SS wire in the tubing extending out beyond the tubing in order to rivet each end. I put replica chinese coins and the earring on the tubing before riveting. The rest of the piece took on a design of its own from that point forward.
I guess I've created a series of pins as you will see from my previous posts this year (except for one week). So I will call January my Pin Series. Maybe I should start a series each month…. that's a big MAYBE. I'm hopelessly behind.

week four – memoirs of a geisha
the colors and dangling beads give me the impression of a geisha's fan. This is an old project that I took apart because the first run through didn't look "right". I think the grey stones are polished river rock, with hand-made grey and red beads, sterling spacers and findings.
Week 4 – Silver and Gold
Combined sterling silver wrapped in gold filled wire. They are actually very delicate and pick up light very nicely. They sparkle when they are swinging from my ears. The picture doesn't do them justice.
I also tried the round style ear wires. Different from the regular hook style I usually make. I have seen them on others earrings and thought I would try them. Gives them the look of a hoop, almost. I like the look.

week 4 off topic
I haven't seen the movie so my old fall back is chainmaille I used 16gauge wire cut and made the jumprings (alot less expensive). the link is called orbital it is a fairly easy link but looks like it took a lot of work. 🙂
Fire agate , peridot bead and copper beads makeup this copper wire pendant. It didn't turn out like I planned. I will hve to think things through a little better. I thought I could do what I envisioned but that didn't happen.

Week 4 – Something a little different – Shay
Well.. I'm not sure what to say about this one. I had intended for it to come out a bit differently, so it was fun watching it change while I made it. I'm not one who usually pre-sketches (wish I could!), but I tried to with this piece and I think it came out so different than what I usually make. I find that pretty cool in itself.
Melissa Muir – Week 4
This set was made for a friend of mine. She likes copper and silver. Luckily, I work a lot with copper and silver. 😉
Both shapes are made with nothing more than a hammer and a swage block. It is the same way I made the lily for the November issue Art Jewelry article I wrote.
Wk 4 – The Blues
Iolite brios, pearls, sapphires, and sterling silver. These are absolutely the nicest pearls I've had my hands on and I'm tempted to toss most of the rest of my miserable collection and start over with this quality.
I just realized that I need to check the box to give access to the full sized photos. I'll be sure to do it from now on.
As always C&C are appreciated. Other photos will be up on my Creativity Journal momentarily.
Week 4 – Squared Off – Randi/Dax58
This is a piece I designed for my "Wire 101" class… I
wanted to create a pendant where wire plays a big part of the design, but didn't depend on coiling or
massive wrapping, since the students are beginners. The wire is 16g,
and it is created in one piece – framed around the pendant, spirals created, then hammered, and the bead wrapped onto the frame,
and the bail shaped. This piece has a light antiquing, which really warms the piece up. It's pretty easy, but still a nice way to work the
bead, with a unique look. I've created others pendants with round, rectangles, and oval beads, so the project is pretty flexible.
