Week 47 — Lovely Jess

Wk47_jess_700
My oldest son is 16, and he invited his sweetheart to sleep over for Christmas.  I love when he does that because it’s the only way that his room gets such a thourough cleanup!  Jessica sleeps in his room, right across the hall from ours (and I’m a light sleeper, ha!), and he gets the futon in the basement.  They’ve been dating for five months already, and I’m very fond of her. She is a sweet, beautiful, bubbly girl with a dazzling smile.  So this is what I made her for Christmas, after I learned that turquoise was her favourite colour.

The necklace is made in argentium, with black onyx beads, and Tibetan turquoise.  Some of the black onyx were encased in a knitted pouch made of fine argentium wire.

Coptic Cross – Shaktipaj

Coptic_cross This is a gift for one of my sons. He doesn’t wear much jewelry. I wanted to emulate the coptic type crosses and some of you may recognize the addition of one of my netted beads. I like the symbolism. Silver beads and 20, 22, 26g wire. Perri

blue planet

Blue_stone_butterflies Yes, I’m playing catch up again! Hopefully I’ll be more organised in the New Year when life calms down!

I made this pendant by wrapping dead soft 0.6mm wire around a beautiful bead by Isabelle Anderson to form two butterflies. It was actually one of the first lampwork beads I ever bought.

Thanks for looking, Jo. www.daisychainjewellery.co.uk

Earthy Contemporary – Blue Planet

Bluelampwork
I will take a better pic but wanted to list this one in the meantime (until I can find my download cord for my camera!) My multicolored version of this necklace made with my lampwork beads receives many positive comments so I decided to make one in blues…a beautiful color for glass. The chain, is of course, sterling silver figure 8’s.

Week 47: Illusions (Earthy Contemporary)

Illusions_copjasphessongarnnecI’m really (I mean "reaaaalllyyyyy") behind in posting every week, but I just made this one yesterday and I think it’s very fitting for the theme for week 47 (Earthy Contemporary).

Delicate ribbons of sparkling copper glass gently swirling like the illusion of a water current flowing through inspired me the minute I saw this artisan lampwork bead made by a friend of mine.

I used several feet of hair-thin pure copper wire to coil all around it and I added in some rustic natural Picture Jasper beads and tiny copper beads.

Pure copper chains, intricate pure copper beads and clasp, along with graduated shades – from deep caramel to pale amber – of natural Hessonite Garnet stones and more Picture Jasper stones make for a truly OOAK necklace.

I love the look of natural copper, so I’m letting this one ‘age’ naturally. I enjoy the beauty of artisan lampwork beads and I had to use this one as a focal in my piece.

Length of necklace: 19 inches long, including toggle clasp.

Happy Holidays to all the wonderful artists here!

Week 47 – “Nancy’s Leftover Bracelet VI”

Week47I’m forever playing catch up.  This is my second leftover bracelet this year.  All my extra jewelry pieces I have, go into a bag until I have enough to make my "leftover" bracelet.  I do like making them, I can remember the past pieces I’ve made.  The bonus, These bracelets always sell within an hour of any show I display at.  Yeah!  Incocorporated in this bracelet are:  Sterling Silver, Swarovski Crystal, Fire-Polished Glass, Fresh Water Pearls, Garnet, Hematite, Malachite, Carnelian, Rutilated Quartz, Tiger’s Eye, Amethyst, Lavender Amethyst, Amazonite, Red Agate, Turquoise, Imperial Jasper, Indian Agate, Moonstone and Peridot.  Hmmm…now that I look at the photo, a plain toggle would have been much better.  -Nancy

Week 47

Week47_2This one was a labor of love. The pendant was done in one week and the necklace in another week. I wonder if that counts for two weeks. 🙂 The pendent was a bit of a challenge because I had a general idea on what I wanted, but it kept changing as I was building it up. I was trying different techniques they weren’t working out, but I’m really happy with the end result. No including I caught the flu this last week and was out for 5 days.

The focal bead I’m really not sure what it is, but I accent it with smoky quartz, 4mm Swarovski crystal beads and 3mm copper bead. The chain is Double Lace chain maille pattern, 20 gauge wire with 3.5mm ID. I’m really happy it is finally done.

Week 47 – Melissa Muir

Golden_heart_angel_400This pendant is a special one for me. It is an angel in Gold Filled. The stone is a beautiful faceted Botswana Agate.

The reason this angel is special for me is that I have made it for a cause. As many of you know, my daughter Kelsi was born 4 months early and died just a short 2 1/2 days after her birth. She was born on December 30, 2004 and died New Years Day 2005. She would be 3 this year.

To honor her short little life and hopefully raise some awareness of Pre-eclampsia and how serious it can actually be, I am going to be doing a fund raiser for the full month of December. Any of my angels sold during December, I will donate a full 50% of the purchase price to the Pre-eclampsia Foundation in Kelsi’s honor. I hope that one day there will be a cure and no other mother or baby will die because of this horrible pregnancy complication.
