Melissa Muir – week 23

Flower  This is another stone I bought while in Indonesia. I haven't identified it with certainty yet. I was told it was an amethyst, but the sweet little old man hardly spoke a lick of English. And I am pretty certain that amethyst doesn't come in this color. So, given the area where he dug the stones from, I am suspecting it is either a form of beryl or perhaps even spinel. I can't wait until I take my gem identification course. 🙂

The designs have been done by drilling and sawing with a jewelers saw.

On these earrings the focal beads is smoky quartz and the accent beads are wood, freshwater pearl, and sterling silver.  Heather

Sorry for the short post but I'm over whelmed with ants and I'm on the hunt.

Vines & Tendrils #2 – Week 23

Vines & Tendrils #2

Yet another variation on a technique by Margo Farrin O'Connor called the "Reversible Cabochon Prong Setting". This one has an Australian boulder opal cab with 18 ga copper wire. And that's it for me for tonight!

Week 23: Stamped sterling silver spinner ring

This ring is made of sterling silver, stamped with lowercase kismet stamps and has a 14k gold-filled spinner ring on it.

Week 23 Mystery stone ring

IMG_8200_edited-1 I pulled this stone out of a bin of unlabled mostly miscellaneous quartz cabs.  It is faceted with a smooth bottom – obviously intended to be used this side up.

This piece needs a bit more finishing done to it too but I wanted to get the photo up before I get any further behind.

Week 23-Edward Scissorhands-Girly Cowgirl

Week 23-Girly Cowgirl This week's submission was made a couple of months ago when I was in my Cowgirl mode…in fact, I think I still am.  This piece was made from copper sheet that I sawed the center out of.  I hung a Thai silver flower in the "window" to give my Cowgirl pendant a feminine touch.  I hung some of my favorite green pearls and hung from a coiled linke a Cowgirl charm that I purchased from Peppermintcharms.

Week 23 – Basketweave Steampunk?

Basketweave web

Once I finished the second Tree of Life, I felt a great need to do something quite different, and I think this pendant fills the bill. Woven of hardware store copper and dark annealed steel wire in a three-thread basketweave and embellished with matte black beads, it is very structural and moves in the steampunk direction. I'd wear it with jeans and a blouse, either on a twisted cord or multiple strands of the black seed beads. Finishing this made me feel like I had found myself again, and I'm ready to move forward and make lots more jewelry. Finally!

Week 23 – Silver Celtic Spiral – Randi/Dax58

SilverFlourish1 So… here’s the silver version! This is the same project as last week’s
copper prototype, and I am very happy with the result. I want to find
some variation of how I work the center – I like these great African glass
discs, but I’d like to find some gemstones that would work – and an
alternative way of attaching them. I’m thinking of writing up a
tutorial for this, and want to identify variations so that the look can
be personalized.

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

Week 23-Flower Medallion

Flower medallion 2 Flower medallion 1 I've never seen Edward Scissorhands so I'm going to ignore that theme as well.  There are a couple bugs in this design that need to be fixed and I'm not 100% happy with the bail.  But I'm thinking about using this for a class project and maybe doing a tutorial.  Someone experienced with wire will be able to figure it out by looking at it but I'm hoping it might make an interesting project for an intermediate wireworker.   This one is 1 3/8" wide but I want to make some smaller ones for earrings.  Thanks for looking.
