Melissa Muir – Week 13

Well, it is totally late, but there is a good reason for that. I was finishing school and moving and building a studio. I do have many pieces to post to get caught up, I just need to photograph them all and get them ready for posting, but I am still here and still creating. So here we go…. 😉

This piece was a custom order. It is based on the character Sirius Black in the Harry Potter Movies. It is the same design as a tatoo on his chest. I made this by layering a couple sheets of black acrylic then cutting it out with a saw. From there I filed and sanded, filed and sanded, filed and sanded and then finally polished it. I created a backplate from sterling silver. The two pieces are attached by a process called Tap and Die. The customer loves the piece and I even got another custom order from one of her friends after seeing the piece. 😉 YAY! That will be posted a tad bit later.

Danish Knots

Week16 I am very happy with the look of this bracelet, however it is too small for me 😦  I have finally managed the Danish Knot and if I say so myself, this is pretty cool.  I have a pair of earrings in the works with this knot.  I am considering offering this as a class with earrings included.  Do you guys think that beginners would be interested at my local bead store?  I would like to break into teaching, as I love working with people, and there isn’t much in my area for beginners/intermediates.

Jean Power- week 13- viking weave bracelet

Still catching up- but I’m getting there. Trying to do it gently without just me filling up the front page for days!
This bracelet was recently made when I taught my Viking Weave class in London. I love teaching this class and always find the technique so mesmerising and soothing- and finishing your work by taking it through the draw-plate is like performing a wonderful magic trick!

The weave was made in copper and the bracelet was finished with Sterling Silver findings as I like the contast.

Week 13 – Morocco Culture

I am very late with this one, but I just didnt want to post anything I hadnt done specifically for this. I really liked the theme 🙂 So I started looking at pics of Morocco and I came a site that had these moroccan painted objects  called Zouaq: "Zouaq
is a decorative style of painting used to decorate doors, tables,
chairs, boxes, picture frames, cupboards, ceilings… or any other
wooden object."

A chest with a gorgeous painting inspired me to create this pendant. It is lemon qtz, amethyst, ruby, green onyx and oxidised silver. I really like how it turned out. Thanks for lookingImg_8316

Morocco Jewels

Moroccojewels This is incredibly late.  However, life happens and it continues to be a hectic mess around here.  I decided to make a simple pair of earrings.  In all of the pictures I perused on Morocco, the jewelry had coins, coins, coins.  I liked them.  I wanted to do an elaborate piece.  However, these simple pair of earrings I fell in love with!  I love to hear the tinkle of the round disks at the bottom.  Reminds me of belly dancers, Christmas, and summer all hanging from pewter loveliness!

Amethyst Bezel with a Twist!

Amethystbezelpendantweb_3 I’m still learning how to make a nice bezel. This was only my fourth or fifth attempt, so I’m not too unhappy with it. The stone was kind of non-uniform and lumpy, and I should have filed the bezel in some areas, so in places it’s a little wavy, but…ok! I’m really getting a feel for the torch and how far I can push things, and also, for the technique of soldering in stages, "feeling" the differences in the  flow of hard, medium and ez solder.

Pink Tourmaline Whimsy – Shaktipaj

TourmalinecolumnI’m having fun with this shape! The empty spaces beg to be filled with small stones. I am definitely NOT happy with the wraps – too messy! I’m sorry, I’m just not a fan of "chaotic" type wrapping. It feels like an excuse for not perfecting technique.
There is something fetching about this though – not sure what it is – maybe the fact that it reminds me of one of my favorite harbingers of warmth and spring: a furry caterpillar.
Sterling wire with sterling beads. Teensy little tourmalines, and a sassy little spinel added to the bottom for spice. LOS’d for funsies and a slightly different look. Without the spinel, it is roughly an inch long. Should I make a second for earrings? Or turn it sideways and thread it on a small chain? This one will go into the etsy shop, methinks. Someone may like it…….

Athena’s Temple – Shaktipaj

Doric_columnA bit of antiquity and a dead giveaway that I love architectural influences. Who better to emulate than the Greeks and Romans? This was too stark to be considered Ionic in influence, but the lines are still delicate. It is hollow, with 5 Doric columns comprising the sides. Essentially, a small temple. 24g, 26g, and sterling beads in 2mm, & 3mm., with a small melon shaped bead on top.
I think it would look nice with some stones inside that didn’t distort the lines.

Thanks for looking, Perri

Totally off theme

Ok to be truthfully honest I didn’t even have the time to research the culture of Morocco…and know next to nothing about it so this weeks entry is a simple pair of floral earrings with rough Yellow Sapphire  in the center.

MOMMAKAT: Movement in jewelry

Stonerollernecklacec030908 I’ve really been exploring movement in my jewelry lately. This necklace is another experiment on this theme. Each roundel in the center of the necklace is attached to the next one by wire going trough the spiral. The picture really doesn’t show this concept well, but it acts and feels like one of those metal linked watch bands… kind of kewl, but I think my execution needed to be better. I"m pretty pleased by my hand forged hook on the end… I never seem to get the proportions right on the hooks, but this is spot on.
