Week 23 Selene Goddess Pendant

Another one not on theme, but it was a piece completed today, and I wanted to get a handle on YOJ posts for the next couple weeks since I likely wont have any more time. For this piece, I was gifted a lovely pewter Selene goddess charm with which I haven’t been able to do much until today. I decided to use a really pretty Nevada lapis cab and use the magenta colored wire to accent the pinks in the stone, give it some floral-like coils and have it, basically, "held aloft" by the goddess.

Selene is the Greek goddess of the full moon, and is often overlooked for this attribute for more familiar goddesses such as Hecate. She represents motherhood in all it’s aspects, and that’s why I chose a floral kind of motif, rather than going for the obvious moon shape. She hangs rather long, at about 3 inches, but I was surprised by how delicate she still seems to remain, despite that kind of length.

Enjoy, Nik

Week 22 Love Potion No. 9

Entirely NOT on theme this week (these culture themes are killing me for some reason), but I just ordered a kabillion yards of colored wire from parawire.com, and I’m having an absolute blast with it today, so decided to get ahead on my posts and fill in a couple weeks with pieces I’ve just completed. I’ll be busy preparing for a show next weekend, so I wouldn’t otherwise have the time.

For this piece, entitled Love Potion No. 9, I wanted to do my take on a bottle pendant that Iza does so well, but still keep to my overall style- just incorporate the idea of a bottle, anyway. This is also one of the few times I’ve created a pendant using pieces of wire for a base wire, or parts (essentially), verses one continuous base wire. Rose quartz cab and bead and magenta colored wire make up this concoction, with tiny seed beads to accent the main body of the pendant.  I made a bracelet to match, but the lighting was already far too poor to take a picture of it, so I’ll edit and add it in tomorrow.

Enjoy, Nik

Week 18 – Janice

Posting late — hadn’t taken a pic of these, we’ve been wearing them – these are two super simple pairs of earrings I made for my Mom (but you note I said we’ve BOTH been wearing them – they are just so easy to wear)

Fire in the Shade: Custom for Nina

Nina_shade    I’ve been trying to get back on the bus, so to speak, where the YOJ is concerned.  I’m having a bit of a time trying to carve out creative time for myself lately considering that the beautiful weather keeps winning us over with it’s irresitable allure.  It’s hard to stay inside in all this sunshine – especially with three people tugging you towards the door. 🙂  That said, I’m using a recent custom order for my entry this week.

At the Outside Art Fair last earlier this month, I recieved a custom order for a netted pendant made with some stunning firey orange dichro glass.  Nina wanted it netted in gold wire, set sideways, with Indian red Swarovski crystal accents on the chain.  Overall I think it turned out nicely, I certainly hope that Nina feels the same way. 🙂  I’ve taken several shots of the new necklace in different lighting.  I realize the first picture is rather shaded and probably not the best picture to show it off, however, I loved the ‘fire in the shade’ look so I kept it.  Oddly, it’s my favorite pic out of all of them, so I chose to use it for my Year of Jewlery entry.   There are more pics of this piece available on my blog: http://deliastonesstudio.wordpress.com/

Thanks for looking!

Peru Culture

I had to use some gold to honor the Peru Culture theme. The glass beads were handmade by me in the flame (of course). 🙂 I LOVE these beads! Rich saphire blue and golden orange swirled with some dichroic and silver foil and then coated in clear! I wrapped these glass beads with gold filled wire. At the top and bottom are delicious faceted citrine rondelles wrapped in more gold. Dropping down below are two faceted blue fire spectrolite briolettes and in the center a large AAA faceted champagne citrine briolette also wrapped in gold filled wire. These have been wrapped onto gold filled lever back ear wires. As always, would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you~ Laura

Cambodia Culture

Cambodia

The country borders Thailand to its west and northwest, Laos to its northeast, and Vietnam to its east and southeast. In the south it faces the Gulf of Thailand. The geography of Cambodia is dominated by the Mekong river (colloquial Khmer: Tonle Thom or "the great river") and the Tonlé Sap ("the fresh water lake"), an important source of fish.

Cambodia is also an area where precious stones are mined such as Rubies and Sapphires.

Img_2943 I decided to create a flowing focal by shaping then soldering 16 gauge square sterling silver wire together. To give it a satin finish I lightly sanded the piece. Gold filled 1/2 round wire was wrapped at all of the soldered points. Once this was done I added Ruby brios which are wrapped with 26 gauge sterling silver wire.

The chain is a simple two in one maille.

Thank you,

Deborah aka Sneekbead

Week 20 – China Culture – Lily Magnolia

As usual, I started browsing google images for pics of China and I saw a pic with those trees that have no leafs, just this pink and lilac flowers that look like cotton candy.. and I knew I wanted to make something like that. So here is my lily magnolia necklace. I used pearls, SS and that briolette which I’m not sure whether its rose qtz or pink chalcedony.

Here’s a pic of the tree Im talking about

and here’s my necklace

Week 19 – Taurus… off theme

Not on theme again. I just cant seem to relate to astrological signs… I don’t believe at all in the horoscope.
I made this very simple earrings that truly showcase the beauty of these marquise briolettes I bought a few months ago. They’re soo pretty and big, they measure 1.8 cm x 1.4 cm. I used also garnet and a coin pearl, goldfilled wire and some gf tiny balls.

Week 18 – Sacred Rites

I’m not on theme for this week. I made a bracelet following Sharylin Miller’s Tribal Treasures DVD. I was excited to do this one since I had found that gorgeous Hill Tribe bead on my last trip (she uses them on her DVD) The other bracelets I had done like this had been in more aqua tones, but for this one I went more earthy tones. Smoky quartz, jade, aventurine, lemon quartz and citrine, with lots of silver.
