Week 26- More Retreat items

Week26  These great sterling earrings are made by form folding.  I took a flat piece of silver, folded it in half, hammered along the seam, annealled several times and eventually a curve was created.  Then soldered, yep.. soldered 🙂 the earring wires.  These are large, but very light weight.

Week 26 – Opposites Attract

I am so behind it’s embarrassing :/ But I’ll be slowly catching up.
I may be totally cliché with this one, but my opposites are the typical: black and white. I had the idea for this ring the other day as I was falling asleep. I was too lazy to get up and grab paper and pen, but I said to myself "I’ll remember". Surely enough, I didn’t. Then yesterday, as I was working on a commission, it came back to me! It didn’t come out as planned at all, but I still like it. I have other ideas based on this one that I hope to have time to work on soon. This time, I have drawn them so I won’t forget 🙂

Melissa Muir – Week 26

Rings82308001These rings are from a class I just recently taught. The carnelian one in the upper left corner is the one I made. The other two were made by my students. The botton one is an Aventurine and the top right is a black onyx.

Again, you can see more and read about them on my design journal.

More Netted Bezel Fun…Silver Leaf Jasper Pendant

Silvlfpen_mid This Eni-inspired pendant was created for a pendant swap at a forum I joined.  It started with a big silver leaf jasper focal bead which was a nice size, but after I got it wrapped, decided it needed some embellishment.  I started out thinking it was going to be a very organized, consistent border, but it sort of had a mind of it’s own…:)  I used 4mm faceted silver leaf, moonstone rondelles, tiny Hill Tribe Silver beads, and freshwater pearls.  It’s new owner says she loves it – yay!

Opposites

This was a simple pair of earrings.  I loved the purple cat’s eye hearts!  I am usually not a heart bead person .   I thought of fresh love, puppy love while I made them.  When I took the picture and later the same night wrote the accompanying poem- well let’s just say they turned out the opposite.  So, why not use it for the week.  Still catching up.  Ugg I was on a roll.
Heartsdream
Heart’s Dream JL Denman July 9, 2008

You were my heart
my heart’s dream
fancy
flight
love
delicate kisses and tender moments in the middle of starlight nights
Heart
heart’s dream
lover’s sweet words
you were the love I wanted
the one with gentle hands rough as sand, tender as feathers on newborn chicks
My heart’s dream
a man
a strong one
a live one
a deep lover with deep eyes and deep voice and deep feelings
deep truths from deep depths
of a heart’s dream
You made me sparkle
made me sing
made me feel like heaven moved earth to make you my king
heart’s dream
dream
dream
fly away  on love’s rosy purple haze
but…
dreams shatter
hearts break

Opposites Attract: Christmas in July

I wanted to try a different approach with this theme, and instead of chosing stones that seem opposing, I wanted to chose a design that opposes the month. Christmas in July certainly seemed quite opposite! So, I started with two oblong malachite cabochons (only measuring about 3/4 an inch in length and 1/4 inch in width). This created the "tree". I used a large black onyx bead for the "trunk" and gave it a Christmas topper of a VERY small black onyx cab (at only 10mm- the smallest I’ve wrapped to date!) and a simulated malachite bead. I used the wire (copper) to really create the over-all shape of a tree. The swirls at the malachite give it the "girth" I think a true Christmas tree should have.

Enjoy. It was definitely a process figuring this one out.

Week 26 – The Call of the Bling – Randi/Dax58

CrystalhoopsI’m pretty sure that NO ONE recognizes these as a Randi/Dax project! No metal, no copper, nothing organic at all… AND they sparkle!

I haven’t done any wrapping in a while, and I got in the mood to play
with wire. I swear – I used to play with wire all the time before I became a metal junkie, and I don’t want my wire skills to become too rusty.  These are simple, but I try to be precise when doing simple. They are crystals wrapped on handmade post
hoop frames (each bead is wrapped separate). They really really
sparkle alot – I guess sometimes the call of bling is just too much!

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi
