Melissa Muir – Week 27

Swirl_lamp_earrings  My good friend Laura Critchfield made these beads and I just had to have them. I just love her work and amazingly, she only uses a hothead torch. She is simply amazing. I wish the pictures would show how neat these beads really are.

Week 27-Lord of the Rings-Simple Copper

Simple Copper Although these earrings look simple, it is a challenge for me to get them to both look the same.  They have a couple of different twists and turns to give them interest.

Week 27: Agate pendant for a woman with a very inspiring story

SmallDSCF0283

Agate
and sterling silver pendant for a very beautiful couple whose story
inspired me much. I have written their beautiful story in my blog post
(link below), the story on which this pendant's design is based. The
blog post explains the meaning of each design element and how it
relates to the story.

Freeform Geode Wrap – Week 27

FreFormGeodeWrap

This sliced geode has been sitting on my desk for quite some time, waiting patiently for a new home. I actually made the frame first and then realized that that the geode would fit perfectly. There are holes drilled in the focal so it is stabilized with a 24 ga copper wire wrap. The frame is 14 ga copper.

Week 27-Copper Viking Knit

Playing catch-up again.  When I'm at shows I take along some Viking knit to work on as it's something I can do to pass the time without having to think about it, and it starts conversations with customers.  After ending up with about five feet of silver, I switched to copper for obvious reasons.  I finally got around to making something with it.  This is just a chunky bangle using Greek Mykonos ceramic beads and some Bali style spacers.  The pretty rose bronze end caps are from Heather Ferman.   Thanks for looking.  Copper Mykonos viking2

Week 27 – Another Lampwork Ring – Randi/Dax58

LWRing4 This is another lampwork bead ring I made – I really love how the
silver cap fits so well with the bead design! I used two discs on the
bottom to support the bead, and this great Thai Silver bead cap for the
top. It’s such a vibrant bead… I had to make this a larger size, because I
knew if it fit me, I’d never put it in my inventory!

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

Turqouise & Coral Bracelet

IMG_1375

I have to admit that the idea for this piece came from one of the shopping channels. And since it sold out before I saw it, I set out to make my own. Problem was I had to make my own clasp/spacer bar. Which was done using figure eight sterling silver and jump-rings. Once the figure eight wire was trimmed to the desired length, the 16 gauge 7mm ID rings were soldered in place.

Thank you,

Deborah aka Sneekbead

YOJ09-27 Art Nouveau Cab Bangle – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk27-ArtNouveauCabBangle Art Nouveau Cab Bangle (2009)
Sterling silver, bloodstone
L 21.5 cm x W 2.5 cm
Constructed, cold joined

Although it’s supposed to be a calming stone, I’ve always found
bloodstone to have a kind of overpowering “in-your-face” energy that’s
difficult to deal with.  For the last few weeks, though, I’ve been
wearing it while working on my tutorials, and it’s been helpful for
keeping my energy levels up and focused.  I love the red spotting on
this cab, and the slight yellow cloud overlaying the green.

I think this is by far the most complex of the projects I’ll be
teaching at Haliburton this year.  Hopefully by the time we get to this point in the course,
the students will have enough confidence to tackle it.

More commentary about this piece is available on my blog, a wrapturous blog.  Thanks for looking!  Comments are always welcome!

Week 27 — Crop Circle Earrings

Crop Circle Earrings web

Don't you just love crop circles? I do. I love the geometry, the beauty, the prank aspect, the temporary nature of the art. Earlier this summer I was inspired by a photo of a particularly spectacular crop circle representing a jellyfish. I want to do my interpretation of that work sometime, but first I needed to work through the techniques I would be using. As beginning crop-circle artists might make a simple set of circles for practice, I came up with a simpler design that still has the crop circle aesthetic.

These are worked in half-hard sterling wrapped with 28g sterling wire and embellished with tiny sterling beads. They measure about 1 1/inches or 38mm in diameter. For all the technical details and so forth, please visit Silver and Crystals and Beads, Oh My!.

Your comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks for looking.
