Melissa Muir – Week 26

Agate_vines  This is a fun little pair of earrings made with sterling silver and faceted Botswana agates. They are actually relatively light in weight and have a beautiful pastel color pallet.

Slab Wrap – Week 26

SlabWrap

I went to an art show last weekend and found a bunch of misc slabs, interesting shapes and textures. I'm not sure what stone this is, no clue, but I came right back to the studio and began experimenting. This one has brass and copper wire mixed to pick up the colors in the matrix.

Week 26-Antoni Gaudi-Chained Vintage

Chained Vintage 1 I've been thinking of how I wanted to incorporate some of my mother's jewelry into my jewelry pieces and this week I used the old and the new in this piece.

The small brass beads from Beadtopia Vintage add just a little bling to the short chain.  The focal heart is a design by Thomas Mann and given to me by a friend.  My mother's filigree pearl adds the right touch to the heart.  The Paris Girl charm from Peppermint Charms has a saying on the back "Dreams are not made to put us to sleep but to awaken us" so I made the small brass charm with the word dream stamped on it and dangled a couple of my mother's pearls from it.  The cameo, also my mother's, completes my necklace.Chained Vintage 2

I really enjoyed creating this piece and will always enjoy wearing it because of the special momentos attached to it.

Week 26 – Lampwork Ring – Randi/Dax58

LWRing3 I've been on a ring kick lately! I made a few of these rings, and sorta did
it in stages, so I started them weeks ago, and finished this week (which is why I will be posting a few of these). I
really love making these rings… now if only people would love BUYING
them! I so appreciate the talented glass folks – it is an area that I
will probably not ever get into, so instead I try to showcase the
lampwork beads as small works of art. The basic technique – I solder
the band, and solder a tube onto it, then add the bottom bead cap, then
the bead, then the top bead cap, and rivet them together. In this case,
I handmade the caps and gave a little texture to blend with the bead.

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

YOJ09-26 Prong Set Pendant – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk26-ProngSetPendant Prong Set Pendant (2009)
Sterling silver, labradorite
Constructed, cold joined

I found this labradorite in my stash again recently while working on the prong set pendant tutorial.

I’m rediscovering my love of stones, and am fantasizing about going
to Bancroft to *shop*!  Having put myself on a buying moratorium for
the last few years, I normally go to the gemboree just to have a look
around.

When I floated the idea of going this year, my DH surprised me by suggesting I go by myself
It’s a long drive to take the boys on, and since they don’t show much
interest in rocks (other than the ones they can throw into water), the
show is wasted on them.

Hmmm…. the possibilities…

More photos of this piece are available on my blog, a wrapturous blog.  Thanks for looking!  Comments are always welcome!

Braids

DSCF9045

This bracelet started out as just the braided wire in the center. And it just looked to plain so I added the keishi pearls and daisy, now this is a cuff. Wire used 12 coils in 22g and 26g to weave it together. Thanks Linda C&C always Welcomed MY WEB SITE

Week 26-Abacus Ring

Abacusadjustablering This is a fun ring with the seed beads moving back and forth.  I am proposing this ring for Bead Fest and Wire Fest next year.  Also have a different version made, but the camera is on the fritz

Week 26 – Blue Pearl

Blue Pearl web

It is the halfway point for this Year of Jewelry. So far, I'm pretty happy with the things I've made, not to many copout projects made just to meet the deadline. On the other hand, I've been scrambling too much of the time — making a piece for this blog should not seem like such a hurdle, especially since I don't have a job that uses up big chunks of my time. I think I'll take the start of the second half of the year as a new beginning. I've been thinking about how to budget my time better so I get more jewelry things done and so I get the business side of jewelry-making under better control.

Meanwhile, this pendant revisits a theme that I developed last year when I wasn't in YOJ, using basketweave and tiny silver beads to create a pendant. In this case I used a Swarovski pearl and three tiny Swarovski crystals to accent a marquise-shaped pendant. You may see it as a fish, if you prefer. For all the technical stuff and other blathering, do stop by at Silver and Crystals and Beads, Oh My!

Your comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Carnelian & Amethyst

IMG_1308

My muse wanted to combine carnelian & amethyst, so she won. Using Nikki's tutorial with a couple of twists this pair of earring emerged.

Thank you,
