Week 1 – Shay

Hi everyone,
I've decided that since I can't even begin to keep up with the themes, I'd at least get myself to post once a week.  Of course it is week 5 so I'm a bit behind. I sure have been enjoying everyone else's work though!  Cheers to a bunch of wonderful artists here.

Week 1-Gone with the Wind-Virtues

In Gone with the Wind I would put the word Virtue and Ashley together.  Oh, how Scarlett loved Ashley but Ashley loved Melanie and no amount of pleading would sway Ashley from marrying Melanie….

Week 1-Virtues Well, I found this Virtue charm (one of several charms) on a stretchy bracelet in a second hand store.  I didn't know what I was going to do them it but knew I liked them.  Alana from Flameboyance Glass had shown me a bead she had made and thought it would look great on a pin.  She said "some day I'll ask you to make me something with this".  Well, I managed to take that bead without her realizing it and made a pin for her.  The Virtue charm describes Alana.  Thus a pin was born and given to Alana.

I had a wonderful time creating this pin.  Hope you've enjoyed the story behind it.

Visit me at Perles and LIfe if you get an opportunity.

Joining Late! Week 1: Gone With the Wind

Hi all! Thank you Eva for letting me join in late :-). I had made this one with Valentine's day in mind. But I guess it can go with "Scarlett". The pendant is made using Judy Feskun's Heart Wrap tutorial. The chain is made with fresh water pearls. The pendant is a Carnelian heart wrapped with sterling silver wire. To read more on this, please visit my blog.

Gone With the Wind

I thought of Victorian style jewelry as appropriate for Scarlet.  What would go with the green drapes better than purple amethyst?  OOPs, much larger than I expected.  Amethyst victorian pendentP1120107

Scarlett’s Declaration

Scarlett's-Declaration
I was raised in the Southland, with a whole bunch of 'Scarletts' who wanted to be starlets like Vivien Leigh. You don't know how many times I've seen excerpts from this movie done at school talent shows…..The favorite quote is not the famous "Frankly, Scarlett…." nor the "Childbirth, death, and taxes – ain't never a convenient time for none of 'em!" We all know what it is – Can't you just see her standing on the hill with the determination in her eyes and the schlocky music in the background? Yep! Now picture 10 separate teenage girls doing it,one after another, on a gymnasium stage……
"With God as my witness – I shall never go hungry again!!!!!"
I picture her clutching this to her breast as she says it.
This is a lovely, but flawed piece of Labradorite looks like a butterfly wing. The weave is from my Celtic Braid Pendant, I just made a new tutorial for it. But there is a little something more! The bail is detachable, and will allow larger necklaces. I'll post other pics in my blog, soon! You know I am always really, truly open to criticism and comments. Please feel free.

Thanks for looking, Perri

week one – beach dreams

I'm so tired of the snow and cold – I made something to remind me of the sun and warmth.

Eclipse

My week one entry is a labadorite netted bangle that I created at the first of the year.  There are a few flaws in it, which is okay with me because I'm nearly convinced I can keep it for myself!  :::wicked laughter:::  It's rare when I treat myself to one of my pieces of jewerly, as odd as that sounds.  It's created with a lovely specimen of labradorite, montana blue sapphire Swarovski crystals, facted thai silver beads, coin pearls and sterling silver wire, of course. :)  I oxidized and hand polished the finished piece to give it an antique appeal.

I netted the coin pearls that attach the chain to the bangle – or is that brangle (cross between a bangle and a bracelet).  I really like the detail that netting the back beads adds to these ?brangles?  It's a considerable pain in the you-know-what to net these smaller beads, but it's worth the frustration in the end.

Wk 1 Hammered bangle

IMG_1765
This piece was done on time but as I don't like it much I delayed photographing it until today.  Nothing better fell out of the sky for me to use so here it is.  10g silver wire – hammered, drilled, riveted, filed, sanded and polished.  If I was going to use this I would put more time into finishing it but as it is I'm stopping here.

As always, C&C are appreciated.  You can see more on this piece on my Creativity Journal.
