Love this Pendant

Week18 Again, crappy photography!  I can’t find the clip to place my camera on the tripod.  Anyway… this is totally my design.  I am sure it’s like alot of peoples, but I actually sketched it, and then tried to duplicate it.  I usually just pick up the tools and start, but not this time.  This is about 3.5" long, so quite large.  I used 18 gauge as the armiture, and 26 gauge for the wrap…  High quality labradorite and onyz complete the looks.  Maybe my muse is back from vacation!

Jean Power- week 14- lampwork and chain earrings

More simple wirework this week. Some earrings made using basic techniques and materials to fulfill specific guidelines.
These earrings just use turned loops, chain, beads and wire and are nice and dangly and quick to make- always good!

Fool’s Gold

Foolsgold I am still behind, but I whipped these earrings together this evening.  They are thin yellow shell discs with gold-toned wire wrapping and yellow glass beads.

Week 14 – Fool’s Gold

So I’m not really on theme, as I am not using fool’s gold (pyrite) but let’s just say that a fool could believe this is all gold instead of it being goldfilled 😉 Goldfilled wire in various gauges and some gf tubes.

Be Careful What You Ask For…

because you might just get it!

So much has happened since I last posted that "Breathe" is permanently placed at number 1 on my To-Do List.  Gallery representation, a local television show appearance, writing tutorials, planning classes and creating pieces for an upcoming show have kept me busy, busy.  Please visit the  Airheart Studio Blog to hear more.

Right now let me share some of my favorite earrings. I call them Shahsavan Hoops since they are woven with a weave used by this tribe in Iran to create fabulous carpets. (An absolute weakness of mine!)  Composed of 20ga warp and 28ga weft, they are a little under 1" in diameter and 3/8" wide.  The warp is argentium and the weft is 28ga sterling.  Oxidation with Silver Black caused only the sterling to oxidize, leaving the argentium to gleam!  Because of that I’ll be working this combination again!  These will be up in the Airheart Studio Shop by the weekend.  Thank you so much for browsing.

Chelsea Creek Pendant

Chelseacreekweb This pendant and earring set was commissioned by a co-worker who’s a member of the Chelsea Creek Action Group, dedicated to restoring a creek that feeds into Boston Harbor, as a gift to their departing leader. The pendant is two sterling rounds soldered together, the front one cut out to frame the images that represent the stream: the texturing resembles reeds and little fishes, with soldered on swirled copper sun and waves. Finished with LOS. The beads are apatite, olive jade, and silver. The little tag bears the group’s acronym. The earrings are simple hoops with more of the same beads. It’s more delicate than my usual bold style, but I spent some time finding out the personality and likes of the person for whom it was intended. I heard back from my friend that the group and recipient were happy with the result!

MOMMAKAT: Jerry’s Request

Jerrysnewwatchd041208 I don’t do alot of men’s jewelry, cause well, it’s not as fun for me.  But I do make pieces for my hubby.  I made him a watch which he wears all the time.  Last week he broke it and requested I wire wrap something this time around for him.  I"m very happy he wants to wear something I make for him, and the old design is 3 years old.  After careful consideration this is what I came up with.  The big square stones in front are bloodstone wrapped in 16 ga copper. The wire is way to thick for the stones, so I’ve actually strung the beads with softflex and then fitted the wraps to the stone, and strung them on like a bead. The spirals are my sneaky way of hiding the crimps, and making it look like everything is wireworked. I’m hoping it will last longer this way also. It gives it very good fit also, being more flexible with beading wire as the base. The large black beads in back are obsidian.

Week 14 – Amazonite Grace WIP

Amaz_cross_2 Hi all – Good to be back to Year of Jewelry.  My goal this go-round is simple. 1) to actually finish, 2) not get behind by more than 1 week, 3) create pieces that require me to work on technique.  I will most likely not be following themes.

I actually had it in my head that next week was the 1st week of 2nd quarter, but I am still within my goal of not being more than a week behind!

On to the piece…this is a work in progress attempt at Iza’s cross tutorial.  I have been wanting to create a wire-wrapped, coiled cross that was beautiful, yet strong enough to possibly include on a rosary.  Most of the other versions I had seen were pretty fragile for that end.  I actually had something similar to Iza’s design in my head with a few differences, but just couldn’t seem to bring it to fruition.  Imagine my excitement to see Iza’s tutorial for exactly the concepts I was trying to work out!

The tutorial was very clear and easy to follow…actually finishing it was more difficult!  If you look closely, the wraps on the top and left arm leave a lot to be desired…you can tell I did those 1st.  My end curls and loops were not exact either.  I need practice working with larger gauge wire.  Also, the back is not as neat as the front!  All in all, however, I think it was a great success and I can’t wait to finish the entire piece so I can start a different one!

This one is going to eventually be part of a necklace, so as soon as that part is completed, I will oxidize and update you with how it turned out.

Comments/critiques are welcome…
