Big Blue

Onthebeachbracelet350
Onthebeachearrings350Well, at least the focal beads are big and blue. 😀 This is the rest of my necklace set from last week. I don’t know what I think of it yet. But I wanted to have a nice fun summer set on my table at the Pre-eclampsia walk-a-thon this weekend.

I am SOOOOO nervous about selling my stuff there. Wish me luck. There are loads more pictures of things on my Design Journal. Take a look and let me know what you think. Have a great weekend everyone.

random links / brushed silver

Water1Water2One of those things that at some point start living their own lives. It was supposed to be a necklace with a large tourquise pendant but it somehow preferred to transform into a light, yet bold set. I needed some jewelry for my holidays, I’m leaving to Italy tomorrow for 3 weeks and I’m SO HAPPY!!! I know I’m going to spend most of time at the swimming pool or the beach but Venice is also a part of our plan, so I have to look nice, don’t I? 😉

Lots of brushed and hammered fine silver, a few oxidised wraps. It’s so simple but I think it will look great on tanned skin 😉

So I’m sending you kisses and I promise I will be back with lots of new jewelry design ideas 🙂

Almost a Horse Pendant

1horse_resized      … but I hate it.  I tried working some tiny pearls into the beads but in the end I think that’s one of the things that throws it off for me. 😦  I am still not done with it, there’s still work to do.  I will update the pic when I’m done.  I only have until Saturday to finish it up, which should be plenty of time – but if I had a week I’d redo the whole thing.  I am just sooo unhappy with the way it’s turned out.  Very disappointing.  It still needs more polishing, buy I’m throwing it out there for any feedback.  Any thoughts on how to improve upon it?  I’m planning to add dangles on the bottom and a bail of some sort on the top, then probably just put it on a chain with a few accent beads.  All suggestions welcomed and appreciated!

Okay, posting with changes.  Forgive the pic, it really sux and does not do the pendant justice.  I’m sad that I will not have a good pic of the final product. 😦  Ahhh well.  Thank you all for your suggestions.  In the end, I bent the ear forward a bit to make it look less like a horn and more like an ear.  Not a big difference, but it helped a little.  Then I added a mane as many of you suggested.  Cammy suggested a coiled mane, so that’s what I went with.  The mane made a BIG difference in the final product.  Here’s my horsey with the changes.

Unversal Soul I

Katbarronmillerjewelryuniversalsoul The Theme for week 22 is the "big blue".  This sort of qualifies!!! In an attempt to catch up and really just show off a series I’m very proud of, I’m not following the theme.  I finished this piece back in March, and I’ve been working off and on on the other four since.  I finished the last piece two weeks ago, and got them taken as slide photos.. I just got my photo’s back today! you can see all of them on my blog : http://mkpbeadart.blogspot.com/2007/05/universal-soul-is-done-and-photographed.html   I am really proud of my self on several levels… sticking to all five pieces, even when I temporary-for like a month- ran out of ideas.  Not selling any pieces until I got the whole series done.  Not being afraid to rip out and start again when the piece didn’t flow like I wanted it to.  Boy did I do that!!! I think a third of my wire odds and ends came from this series! LOL Anyway, this is a community and a project about growth as an artist, and I really feel I stretched on this series!

Coral Reef

I’m running behind again darn it. This was due on Sunday, I actually started the piece on Sunday, and got it done on Monday but finally got the pics taken and posted. This is my version of a coral reef. It’s 5 strands of chips and mini spikes, pearls, seed beads and 3 charms representing the wildlife that would be teeming at a real coral reef. (And of course the reef would also be alive! ) Originally I was going to make it 7 strands, but I thought it looked full enough at 5 strands. Overall I’m pleased with it, but I had some grand ideas for the other possible topic for the week, Beach Scene. Didn’t have the time though. I’ve got several sketches that might someday be really kewl jewelry!! Coralreef

Week 22 – Erin J – Enameling Finally!

Week_22_cloissone_enameling_1 Week_22_cloissone_enameling_2 We finally got to do our first enameling project – cloissone.  I have been so looking forward to this and it didn’t disappoint.  I’m not sure what I am going to do with it yet – probably bezel set it (eek!)  Can’t wait to do the next one.  Now to ask Santa for a kiln.

Week 21

I managed to get something made this week! Not on topic, but that’s ok 🙂 I cut and polished the stone, then bezel set it, I made the chain and funky organic links with 16 and 18 gauge wire. Agate_and_wire Agate_and_wire2

Spirals from the beach…or not

Week_21_012_pc_copyI am very late, due to a server crash, which occurred on Friday!  It is finally up and hopefully will stay that way!  Five days with no Internet is a bad thing!  These earrings were made to resemble earrings made from  sea shells which had been sliced across the shell.  I had more trouble making the spiral than I did anything else.  I finally discovered that it is best to make them from the outside in rather than the inside out.  The spirals were then soldered to the bezel and back, then the whole shebang was filed forever, because it was too tall and uneven.  Then I wet packed them with enamel.  The enamel was then torch fired.  I over fired the last layer on one of them so had to take out a layer with a diamond bit and do it over again.  That caused a slight color difference, but it is very slight, and not very noticeable.  The ear wires are made out of 18g sterling silver.

Beach scene Sheila

Nks2a Nkb1bb_2 I began to make a bracelet and ended up with a necklace. I haven’t decided whether to add a chain, leather or fabric for it to hang from, but I’d gladly take suggestions.Goldfill wire, peruvian opal, freshwater pearls dyed, shell, polymer clay starfish and a few goldplated discs (that I could shoot myself for working them in).

Turn, turn, turn

TwistearI took patterned sterling silver wire, annealed it, then turned, turned, turned.  Then soldered loops on the top for the earwires.
