Melissa Muir – Week 18

Blue_fire2  This is a blue onyx. I love this stone. The color is so unlike anything else I have ever seen when it comes to blue stones. It is semi transparent and when held up to the light, you can see the designs I have cut out behind the stone.

Week 18 – Bladerunner

I'm way behind and will be posting to try to catch up.   The stone is Epidote in Quartz and has been wrapped in 14k gold filled wire.  Though this piece does not relate to the movie, I think it relates to the title.  Thanks for looking.

Week 18 – Bladerunner

"I'm late, I'm late–for a very important date." I know the theme is Bladerunner and not Alice in Wonderland, but I am so behind with my postings. 🙂

This chain necklace I wanted to do something a little more unique with how the links looked, yet keep it delicate and famine.

The metal is Sterling silver 20g wire and 30g wire and the 3mm round beads are onyx. Finished off with a custom made clasp.    Heather

Yin Yang Bracelet – Week 18

YinYangBracelet

This project started out to be a pendant but eventually evolved into a bracelet. I shaped, hammered and annealed 16 ga copper wire to fit the top of my wrist and attached it around back with a length of chain. My friends call this low tech metalsmithing, I call it a lunch break project. 😉

Week 18-Bladerunner-Then and Now

In Week 7, I submitted the beginning of my charm bracelet…… links made with Vintaj parawire and sterling silver jump rings.

Jingle Jangle This is the finished project.  There are some very special attachments on this bracelet…my mother's thimble and my Girl Scout charm for selling all those Girl Scout cookies.  Also special to me is the chain of beads that are from the 1950's which I received from the wife of a former supervisor (he purchased the jewelry for her on a business trip).  The "life" charm is a Susan Kazmer Lenhart creation that I felt was perfect, given the theme of the bracelet, "Life is a Journey".  I changed the toggle from Week 7's submission to a button (that I just happen to find and forgot I had) and chain clasp.

Jingle Jangle 2

Jingle Jangle 1 I had such fun with this bracelet and really enjoy wearing it….it jingle-jangles.

Week 18 – experiment

IMG_7497_edited-1 I didn't actually expect this to work out so I didn't take proper care along the way to finish the surfaces.  This experiment was my first time working with a prong setting.  It actually worked out quite well!  I would change some minor things next time but I've worn this as is.

Sterling silver and CZ.

Bladerunner

Oh, it was very interesting to express almost antiutopiah with only one small creation! Pendant with labradorite must show more then 3d life, but dreamworld and doubts of Ford`s hero. Labradorite is one of most mystical minerals, it help to open clear intuition etc. Very strange pendant.

Week 18 – DOH!

Pretty sad that I had these made and photographed, but let myself get too busy to get them posted…

P4280140

I wanted some two tone earrings, other than copper and silver and tried these GF Balls.  I was somewhat hesitant to LOS them not know what might happen to the balls, but all is well!  They could be cleaned a bit better, but the trusty tumbler is broken right now….
Thanks for looking and any thoughts you might want to post!

Week 18: Signature/Handwriting Rings

SmallDSCF0073

I got the idea from the book "500 Wedding Rings". These are also made
through lost wax casting. In the book, the rings were made from
additive process (adding wax). But I don't have the expensive equipment
to do that, so I used my good old hands and a needle and made these
through reductive process (carving out wax). My ring has my hubby's
signature on it, and hubby's ring has my signature on it. Quite pleased
with it :-))).

When I finally buy casting equipment, I would
love to offer jewelry with things written in people's own handwriting,
or making jewelry with finger prints…I feel this kind of jewelry will
be close to people's hearts. Having jewelry with words written in your
own handwriting, or in the handwriting of someone you love or admire,
or wearing jewelry with finger prints of the ones you love…these
things can have sentimental value for people…I know it does for me.

Of
course, I can always etch these on copper and then roller print on
silver (because I hate to etch away silver). Might try that too one of
these days.

Week 18 – Lampwork Flower Pendant – Randi/Dax58

LWFlowerPendant I'm a little late this week… I'm not too happy with how this came out, but I don't think I can futz with it anymore, unless I just rework it. This pendant matches the ring I posted last week – I love these little
flower beads, but it's not easy creating designs so that they are
"face-up" to show them! Originally, I created this without the riveted
disk, but it looked sorta naked, so I added it afterwards, and I'm not sure if it works. I think it would
probably look best if the backpiece was shorter, maybe a teardrop shape?? With just the beaded
riveted on, and then the bail… maybe I'll rework it!

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi
