Week 6 Aquarius

Well it’s stretching a little bit, but in the sound track from hair, the Aquarius lyrics there’s a part that goes;

“Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelationAmythyst_weave
and the mind’s true liberation”

So here is my Mystic Crystal Revelation

This is from a tutorial that I got from Remy of Studio Heath.  (This is the second one I have made from the tute.)  This one is Copper wire, amethyst and quartz crystal.   It is a smallish piece, less than 2 inches tall including the bail,  which is what I was going for.

You can’t really tell in the picture, but the amethyst is a really deep purple and has rainbows all in it, especially at the top part.  This one is going to become one of my fast favorites

Week 5-Queen of Mardi Gras

Colors of purple and green just weren’t doing it for me this week, so I decided to make a jewel for the Queen of Mardi Gras. I have had these fabulous crystal quartz for almost a year, but couldn’t decide what to do with them. I took 14 gauge and made three equal cuts and wire wrapped them all to form a deep frame for this stone. After wrapping I bent each end into a curl. It is a challenge to take three 14 guage at the same time! I then took chain and looped into the spiral and connected an 8mm bead . The rest of the chain ends in a handcrafter j hook. All were oxidized and tumbled. I am not happy with this picture and will take another, but wanted to post on time. I will also take one from the side so you can see the frame. I am proudly wearing this one right now.Week5mardi_gras

Amore’

Amore’ Ring

"When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie…That’s amore…When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine…That’s amore"

Img_2075 I kept reaching for the garnet cab I used on this ring for other projects…then set it aside…so I figured it’s time to shine had arrived.

Once the bezel wire was soldered I then soldered it to the heart shaped piece that was cut from silver sheet. After being removed from the pickle and baking soda bath I then soldered it to the shank of the ring. The ring shank had been prepared by cutting then soldering…followed by filing a spot flat for the heart to sit on. Once all this was done I followed up with filing, sanding and polishing before I set the stone.

Thank you,

Deborah aka Sneekbead

Labradorite Bracelet – Week 4 – Amari

LabradoritepearlbraceletI finally completed this little bracelet I’ve been working on. I couldn’t decide how to finish it – Eva suggested it would look good oxidised, so I took the plunge, and I’m so pleased with the results. I just wish I could get a better photo!

All sterling silver, tiny white freshwater pearls and labradorite.

More on my blog, and other work on my website. Maz 🙂

Mardi Gras

Well I wanted to make some Mardi Gras earrings based on this crown:
Mardigras1
by using the swirly shapes (of one half) but upside down. I did one and I didnt like it, so I just made it into a pendant. It’s SS, swarovski crystals and tourmaline rondelles. Week5a

So because I wasnt satisfied, I made another pendant, but based on the design of this pretty Mardi Gras paint on bracelet I found
Mardigras2

I like this one much better. It’s 14k GF wire, smoky qtz and champagne citrine.

Blustery

Im late posting for the theme blustery, but it wasn’t because I’ve been lazy! I’ve been busy with final projects and exams. I’m finally finishing up my last semester at the university! Still have to do my thesis, but I wont have to go to classes anymore! yay! Well, for this theme I put blustery in google images and I found this really beautiful ‘water color’ like picture from NASA, called Blustery Bands. It says "The Cassini spacecraft presents a tempestuous scene in which the clouds
of Saturn’s bright equatorial region entwine with those in darker,
southerly latitudes." I used that for color inspiration. Then I came across one of JHill "Places I’ve never been" posters, one of Chicago. She’s a wonderful graphic designer. I used that for shape inspiration.

Blustery1_2

It’s a pendant made of SS and swarovski crystals graduating in color: crystal, crystal satin (i think!), black diamond and black diamond satin. It’s very different from the stuff I usually do.

Week 4 – Drop Earrings – Randi/Dax58

RivetdropearsRiveting and forging… two of my favorite techniques! These earrings
have "dog-bone" drops made from 1" lengths of wire, with small hanging
discs. The discs are textured, and have small silver spacers riveted to
the center, giving them a 3D effect… then they are lightly dapped and
antiqued. I really like these, and I’ll be making more of them (I
proposed these as a class project), but I’ll use different spacers…
these had a seam, which split when riveted, so I need to be more
particular about the bead I use.

I don’t even look at the themes for my weekly projects, but I sorta think the drops look like snowflakes… perhaps they escaped from a blustery storm??

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

Week 1 I can do this!

I have waited posting these earrings until they arrived at Iza’s doorstep. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise for her. I really wanted these to be my entry for week one because they represented the theme "I can do this!" in so many ways. I started making these earrings at the end of December as an extra SS gift for Iza. I was soooo nervous making something for her! So I can make something for Iza was what I was thinking LOL.
Then Barend passed away on the 28th of December and my whole world turned upside down. Finishing these earrings in the first week of 2008 was hard. I didn’t even want to make any jewelry. But then I realized through my friends at the forum that my jewelry could be my distraction and even be a way of expressing my feelings after this loss. So I can do this! I can get through these hard times with the help of my family and friends. And can honour Barend at the same time by making jewelry and make him proud (he was my biggest fan!). The earrings where made with GF and Fine silver wire and facetted Citrine rondelles.

Blustery

Blustry_wk4 Just a day late with getting this piece up. Yeah, I’m catching up after a lack of wire to work with.

A very simple SS wire piece measureing 2" across, to represent a blustery winters day.
