Melissa Muir – Week 38

008In an attempt to work more on creative stone setting I had this idea. this piece is so big it is a little over the top. But I wanted to try to make something without soldering and still creative.

There are a few more pictures of this piece on my design journal that show the construction of the piece from the side and back.

Once in Royal David’s City~Amethyst and more Pocket Rosary

For some reason, I couldn’t get a very good photo of this pocket rosary…it is difficult to see how beautifully "royal" purple this amethyst is.  I guess this is more of a "deluxe’ version of my usual 1-decade pocket rosary.

10mm faceted amethyst Aves, each capped with ornate sterling caps, a carved "butter" jade (serpentine) flower Pater, handcast sterling crucifix and center, triple sterling wire wrapped links.  For contrast, I used tiny faceted peridot to connect the Aves to the center and tiny faceted amethyst to connect the Pater to the crucifix.

Off topic bracelets

I forgot to give recognition to Robbie for her tutorial teaching me to make prongs in the Rose de France entry.    Sorry Robbie!!!!!  For the bracelets I give credit to Linda Chandler for her tutorial.  Each of my daughters and daughters in law are getting a woven bracelet this year for a birthday gift.  I love mine.  I really like copper treated with los.  This is a very comfortable style to wear.

Spiral Bracelet

not on theme, not even wire, but well, I’m glad I got this done.  I started this around 2 years ago, and looking for something else tripped over it on the pile that is my studio.  It’s made with 9 different Japanese seed beads and I worked very hard to balance the color mix.  more pictures and story at my blog : http://mkpbeadart.blogspot.com/2008/10/week-38-and-39-bracelets.html#linksColorfulspiralchainbraceleta081308

Time of great doubt…

300a300dYes, I’m going through some time of great doubt in wire-wrapping. I have an impression it all goes in circles, that there’s nothing more that can be discovered or rediscovered. I’m seriously thinking of looking for some new technique that could be combined with wrapping…

I’ve made those earrings to wear them tomorrow on a wine festival my friends are organising in a 5 star hotel 😉 I’m not invited to such places too often and so I though some nice glam pair of earrings would be nice. I’m going to wear them to a very simple outfit – they’re the ones to be the star of the evening 😉
They’re made of silver, keishi pearls, andalusite, smoky quartz, iolite and pearls.

Thank you 🙂

My first try at oxidizing

I’ve decided I’ll never be on time or caught up.  *sigh*  I did finally try oxidizing.  Boy was that hard to put a pretty shiny piece in that smelly stuff and watch it change color right before my eyes.  I guess I’m just old-fashioned I still love shiny silver.  I will have to admit though that it does really highlight a piece.

Week 38 – More Seed Bead Bangles – Randi/Dax58

2seed8s
A few more seed beed bracelets… these are using size 8s, so they have
a finer, sleeker look than my earlier ones. The green/blue bangle has
Bali silver endcaps with faceted sepentine beads, and the royal bangle
has Bali silver endcaps, Greek ceramic beads, and a black glass center
bead.

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

Fireflies a.k.a. Lightning Bugs-Week 38

My piece this week is a bangle with copper tubing with SS wire wrapped around it, twisted wire coils, links made from 16 ga wire, and a couple of spiral charms.  The links make this bangle very easy to size and I have started using links more and more.  This was a gift for someone and I enjoyed putting the bangle together with all it’s different components.

Week_38tubes_n_chainAbout those Lightning Bugs…..what fun I had when I was growing up taking a jar, punching holes in the lid and going out in the yard to catch all those glowing bugs.  It was amazing to see how bright your jar would become with all lightning bugs together.Week_38tubes_n_chain_1
