Week 22 (Will I ever catch up? LOL!)
I had made them sometime back, but never took the pictures. The silver has tarnished. Maybe I should LOS it. The big pearl danglings are south sea shell pearls, the teeny ones are fresh water pearls.
Melissa Muir – Week 22
This is an angel made with a cabochon from our own Donna Cason. I bought about 4 of her triangle cabs for the expressed purpose of making angels. I love this piece. I actually wore it to church yesterday and got a lot of comments on it.
Reina del Ara`ndano- Peru
I’m not sure this is the correct date for the Peru theme, but here goes.
Last night I wanted to make a piece that was a tad more upmarket or intricate than some of the pieces I’ve made to boost show inventory. I looked through pieces that I had done in my fused glass class from last year. I have about 25 pieces that are just sitting in a cabinet because I couldn’t think of something interesting to do with them. Well, last night around 10 I got inspired by a cranberry piece with a huge chunk of dicroic glass, cranberry colored czech druks, and other fire polished beads I had left over from a couple other projects. This is what came out.
When I think of Peru, I think of the wealth from their ancient cultures, the art, and then the bloodshed caused by empirialism. This piece mixes those ideas.
Serpentine Drop
Trying to catch up on a few back weeks…I have had a strand of these multi-colored serpentine (aka "flower jade") beads for a long time…they actually are drilled at the wide end so they are meant to hang like teeth. That was how I originally meant to wrap this pretty, melon-y green one, but when I got my base hammered, I realized I had left the wire for the bail on the wrong end…oh well, the next one!
The "Eni" netted bezel is cool, although I was having a hard time getting my loops consistent, but as you can see from this little flurry of activity, this technique is addictive! I marvel at how long it took me to decide to try it!
The rest of the necklace is prehnite rondells in a more translucent melon green than the serpentine focal, and some leftover creamy fw pearls from the redone blister pearl necklace. I oxidized it lightly.

Week 22 – Peru Culture
Still catching up… My country (Ecuador) has a history of war with Peru, the last one was around 10 years ago, where they took up even more territory of what they had previously stolen from us. So, I really didn’t want to get into it, i just made a little something with Peruvian Opal. I had wanted to get some peruvian opal since about a year ago, and on my last gem shopping trip I got this briolettes, which I now kind of regret buying since they’re so fragile, they’re had to match to make earrings and they were veeery expensive.
Anyways, I made this pendant, the shape was inspired by a fabric of a shirt, but in the end it kinda looks like a ladybug. It’s sterling silver, peruvian opal and apatite in two shades. A long chain, handmade clasp and amazonite dangle.
Jean Power- week 22- beaded bead
I love making these beaded beads- they’re a great excuse to play around with colours and crystals. They form part of my Geometric Beadwork series.
My eventual aim is to make at least 84 of them- So far I have made about 7 in over 2 years, so this is a long-term project I’m looking at!

Week 22 – Peru
Okay, this hasn’t anything much to do with Peru. It will have to do.
Week 22 – I know nothing about Peru
This was an experiment that turned out pretty cool! Jasper, crystal, f/w pearls with handmade neckwire.

Peruvian Paso Estribos
This is last weeks entry. I will enter the current piece later this week.
The estribos or stirrup for the Peruvian Paso horse is not made of metal as those with which we are most familiar. When the Spaniards arrived in Peru they could find no source of iron to make stirrups. With improvision, a wooden box was designed and it was adorned with silver. The estribos is a distinctive element of Peruvian tack and ornately attractive as is the complete rider and horse. If you ever have an opportunity to observe a competition of Peruvian Paso horses, do it. They are gorgeous like no other horse.
I used copper for the wooden portion of the estribos and silver for the decoration. I hope you enjoy!!!
Week 22
I’ve been having a hard time getting back to jewelry making, but I did manage to finish these earrings. I used 4mm sapphire cabs in an opened back tube setting. They are about two inches long and have found a home in my personal stash.
