This is obviously another one of my angels. It is made with a dichroic stone from one of my students.

Week 41-Lampwork Frames-Edwardian Period

Week 41-Copper Coiled Glass Pendants I know I'm terribly behind…..hopefully I can catch up.

I've had these two lampwork beads made by Alana from Flameboyance Glass.  My original thought was just to make a couple of wrapped loops at each end and make a bunch of dangles with chain and beads on one end.  Then I thought….what are you afraid of…go ahead, make a coil-wrapped frame for them and add a couple of small beads, too!  I've admired all of the coil-wrapped beads, cabachons and pendants made from multiple coiled wires that are wrapped together on YOJ2009 and know how much work is involved to make these pieces.

YOJ09-41 Goddess Jewels – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk41-GoddessJewels Goddess Jewels (2009)
Constructed, cold joined
Sterling silver, Preciosa crystal

The opening of the Metal Arts Guild of Canada exhibition “MAGC 2067
– Crafting the Future”, held on November 7 at Arta Gallery in Toronto,
was a costume ball.  In connection with the theme of the show, people
were encouraged to dress up in character.

I originally planned to wear a costume, but then, in the week before
the opening, the issue I had been dealing with in my personal life came
to a head.  Although able to attend, I didn’t have the emotional or
physical energy to dress up.

My character was “an acolyte of the Goddess” – a jewellery maker for
a matriarchal society devoted to worshiping a Gaia-centred deity.  As
part of the costume, I made a couple of “Goddess Jewels”.  These are very loosely based on Bajoran earrings,
of Star Trek fame.  My version has a chain of handmade spirals, two
Preciosa crystal drops, because I love dangles and sparklies, and is
worn via an earcuff on the centre of the ear, and a spiral earwire
through the lobe.

I used to wear these a lot, and had forgotten how much fun they
are.  It’s been several years since I made one.  Usually only worn on
the left side, this time I wanted the pair.  Someone took this photo of me at the opening, where you can see one of them.  The whole set of photos from the show is worth a peek.

Art Nouveau

I was trying to follow the theme again, but I didn't really care for Alphonse Mucha's prints of women with long hair:) However his style was very Art Nouveau, and that gave me a chance to work with the same techniques I used last week in the Edwardian pendant. This is brass, sterling, moonstone, kyanite, pearl, gold filled and ocean jasper. I don't really like the oxidized sterling mixed with the brass. The camera makes it look way better than it actually looks in person, the sterling just looks dirty when off camera:)

Week 41-CZ Earrings

Most of my time lately has been spent on preparation for classes or restocking for Christmas shows so I haven'tLavender CZ fleur2 made many new things.   Green CZ fleur These were inspired by something I saw on QVC.  I used to buy all my silver jewelry from QVC.com before I started making it.  Now I occasionally surf it when I need inspiration.  These have a vintage feel to them so I think they might even fit the theme this week.  I'm still trying to decide if I should LOS the lavender pair.  C&C welcome.

Collaboration

IMG_1661

This weeks piece is a collaboration of two distinct styles, Viking Knit and Eni's chunky bracelet style. For a long while I've used her technique to create choker length pieces, this part of the piece is 18" in length. Brought together are turquoise, yellow opal, magnesite, smoky quartz, copper and sterling silver. The two are joined as one using a tube clasp.

Thank you,

Deborah aka Sneekbead
