Week 1 I can do this!

I have waited posting these earrings until they arrived at Iza’s doorstep. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise for her. I really wanted these to be my entry for week one because they represented the theme "I can do this!" in so many ways. I started making these earrings at the end of December as an extra SS gift for Iza. I was soooo nervous making something for her! So I can make something for Iza was what I was thinking LOL.
Then Barend passed away on the 28th of December and my whole world turned upside down. Finishing these earrings in the first week of 2008 was hard. I didn’t even want to make any jewelry. But then I realized through my friends at the forum that my jewelry could be my distraction and even be a way of expressing my feelings after this loss. So I can do this! I can get through these hard times with the help of my family and friends. And can honour Barend at the same time by making jewelry and make him proud (he was my biggest fan!). The earrings where made with GF and Fine silver wire and facetted Citrine rondelles.

Verdantis Earrings – Week 1 – Amari

Verdantisearrings3I’m so late! So much catching up to do… but I managed to make some pairs of earrings, so apologies if I hog the page and post three weeks at once 😉

I’ve been struggling a lot with inspiration just lately, so I’ve decided to go back to basics and do some simple pieces and just enjoy making again.

I’m very drawn to green at the moment, especially rich emerald shades – I think I’m just hankering for spring! I’ve wrapped the top rings on these with faceted apatite and freshwater pearls, the silver beads are Hill Tribe ‘lotus’ beads, and the briolettes are green onyx.

More information on my blog, and pictures on my website.

Week One – I Can Do This!

Geesh, it’s taken me so long to get this posted, sorry I’m late!  I just had lasik surgery on my eyes and I am loving it.  Colors seem so much more vivid and vibrant and I can see the tinyiest of details.

Necklace_3 To get started, Let me explain where I got the idea for this Necklace_2 piece.  My husband bought my Sherilyn Miller’s (I think thats her name) wire book for Christmas and i have now turned into an addict.  I have been purchasing tutorials online (thanks for the tip on the cute stuff by Iza – watch for it in my future pieces) and making pieces like crazy.  I was inspired to make this piece after practicing all the different techniques in the book and I wanted to put them all together in a necklace.  Oh yeah, I also purchased Mark Lareau’s book and made the "Strongest Clasp in the World" technique on this as well.  So here you go.

Since I’m new, I would love any critiques/positive feedback.  Especially from such a talented group that you all are!

I can do this! (I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…)

Yes, Eni’s tutorial.  HAD to try it!  I have these chunky, lustrous pearls and had to give this a try.  I wish I had more gorgeous stones to surround it.  Not a small piece.

My goal…to keep up with all of you.  We all have busy lives…

I CAN do this!

Sorry for the scanned image.  Time and space limits means some compromises.  Thank God for scanners.

Week 1 – I can do this (be late!) Apologies

Gbr_pendantI’m not normally a person to be late and I apologise.  My business and my part time job are vying for my attentions right now and also being school holidays, I’m chief entertainment co-ordinator for my teenage son and his friends lol.

This pendant is something that I did before Christmas for a swap with the Australian forum.  Is it Sorcie’s tutorial?  I can never remember but thank you to whom ever’s it is.  Made in Sterling, Fine Silver, Sterling fish and starfish charms, Swarovski’s and Matsuno seed beads.  This was my first attempt and there have been others since.  Great inspiration comes from Eni here also.

I can Do this!

I can do this! I like the theme. I can get through all the weeks of the YOJ. Even though I do create more than 1 thing a week (most of the time anyways!) I got in for the challenge of doing things with a theme, that I have to research and get inspired with. Last year I got into wire-wrapping, something I thought I could never do. I have to thank my friends at the Art Jewelry Mag forum for that, especially Iza Malczyk and Magdalena Borejko. I had only seen Eni’s wire wrapped pieces and even though I had some of her tutorials, I mostly admired what she did. Iza and Magda’s work really are what got me into doing it. So thanks!

For this week I have a pair of earrings I made for a bride. She got married at the beach and had a really flowing irregular dress. I helped the designer of her dress with the design of the embroidery (sp?) that was going to be kind of at the waist and then she asked me to make her the earrings, with matching beads. The earrings are all wire wrapped 14K GF wire, FW pearls and golden shadow swarovskis. She had dark hair so they really stood out.Week1

I can do this!

At last, my first post. A new technique for the New Year. AquamarinebezelThis is my first successful attempt at setting a stone in a bezel, and I’m pretty happy how it came out. A simple aquamarine chunk. Tubing was soldered on the back to carry the jumpring.Aquamarinebezelback Comments welcome. Maggie
