Depths and shallows
An eni-styled piece. I love the Galaxy chalcedony faceted briolettes, and mixed with the dark pearls and celesite, I really enjoy this piece!
Week 16 Ripples (Lynn)
Egyptian Coils. I have made several of these bracelets, and this one (18g, 5" sections) turned out the best of all. I love the way it feels on my skin, and the oxidized treatment (eggs, I always use eggs!) gives the swirls and ripples depth and richness. I also love to "test" customers when they pick one up by asking if they’d like to guess how much wire is in one of these beauties…this one is just shy of 11 feet of sterling wire!
Ripples, Depths and Shallows
I decided to try reticulation with this piece and actually had a better surface before I overdid it and nearly melted it. After almost hitting the “depths” of despair, I think I’m finally happy with the resulting “ripples”.
I will make more of these to custom fit freeform pearls…..
Week 16 – Byzantine & Garnet Bracelet – Lucinda/PurpleRhian
Well, I think this piece is pretty self explanitory! I used 1mm Sterling wire to make this bracelet and finished it with a clasp made from 1.3mm wire, and added a wire wrapped kite shaped garnet dangle to the extender chain. More in my blog.
Jean Power- week 16
Whilst on holiday in Cornwall I treated myself to a little beading class- it was great fun to sit and play around with beads and colours purely for the fun of it. We were making a ‘Freeform Nugget Pendant’ and I added in lots of colourful, fun beads.
I just need to to bead a spiral rope necklace to wear it on now!
Week sixteen
I thought I was going to have to skip several weeks in the YOJ, through one thing and another, but then I had a couple of productive days and turned out a bunch of these little swarovski and sterling earrings. Decided it was better to put something, anything, in rather than leave these weeks blank. These aren’t great photos – the colours are all wrong – but I really wanted to get them posted.
C&C welcome, although I can’t imagine any for this (and no, I’m not hinting). There is a group photo of the lot of them on my journal if you need a sparkle fix.
Jusmall – symbols
I made this pendant for my cousin’s birthday present. It’s a little late because her birthday was in February and i’ve only just finished it!!! I wanted to do something that was very personal and would mean something just to her, so I researched Chinese words until I found the just the right thing.
The pendant is sterling silver and the front has been acid etched with the name of her daughter Jasmine. The back has been etched with the name of her husband Joe.
Once etched, I shaped and soldered the two pieces together.
On the front – I wanted the symbols to be raised so painted on the acid resist in the shape of the symbols. On the back I painted the whole piece with resist and then scratched out Joes name so that this would be recessed.
I prefer the front to the back but that was because the acid was too strong – it only took ten minutes to etch both pieces so I didn’t dare leave them in any longer.
The recessed areas have been oxidised, and then the whole piece was polished up to a high shine. On the back you can see a reflection of a shopping bag which is in a box near the light tent.
Sparkling Pearls by Beth C./
This necklace alternates clear swarovski crystals with Japanese glass pearl beads. A cross enhanced with clear crystals makes this the perfect gift for a first communion. I’ve been busy catching up on special orders after returning from a 2 week trip to move my mom from Florida back to her home in Illinois.
Visit my blog for more of my work.
Week 16 – weirdlywired
I have a new pendant AND callouses to show for this, and I’m proud of both. This is using Lynette Owen’s Dichroic cab, and Eni Oken’s basket weave tutorial. Thanks ladies – I couldn’t have done it without’cha!
I don’t follow directions well (didn’t measure accurately, or count my wraps), and so what you see as the front, was technically supposed to be the back. I added support to the back, as you can see, and learned a valuable lesson.
I will have more pics on my Journal tomorrow…thanks for looking and any feedback/comments you may have!
Take Care-
