Twisted Wire and Chain – Wk 50

Wk 50 - Twisted Wire and Chain Project
Twisting beads onto strands of wire and then twisting them together is the cheaters way to get the effect of wire crochet. I cheated…;-)

YOJ09-50 Marquise Series: Bracelet 3 – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJ09Wk50-MarquiseSeriesBracelet3-mini Marquise Series: Bracelet 3 (2009)
Sterling silver, copper, fine silver
Constructed, cold-joined
L 16.8 cm x W 1.1 cm

For this piece, I took the idea developed in Week 48
and extended it to a bracelet.  The design looks simple, yet it
surprised me how much work was involved in adding the copper beads.

I like the bi-metal toning – it’s a nice effect, and would really sparkle on tanned, warm toned or dark skin.

Like the project in Week 45,
I alternated the links in mirror image; however, the alternating
pattern sets up an issue for sizing.  I noticed it with the Week 45
bracelet as well, but because it’s all one metal it’s not as obvious.
With this bracelet, because there are two metals, it becomes clear that
there can’t be an odd number of links: it throws off the pattern.  This
design will fit either a very small wrist (like this bracelet does), or
a very large wrist.  On my wrist, which is a little thinner than
standard, but not small, the bracelet fits comfortably with room to
move easily, but I generally like to wear my bracelets loose so that
they jingle.

The design would look stunning with the Swarovskis I used in Week 48,
but adding them will also add to the price of the finished piece.  See more in this series on my blog, a wrapturous blog.  Comments are always welcome!  Thanks for looking!

Silver Raindrops

IMG_1992

This was part of a bracelet that became a prototype piece. Instead of putting the whole thing into scrap, I pulled apart one side from the other. With a little soldering, and wrapping…the results yielded a pendant. I'm going to put it on a simple black leather cord.

Thank you,

Deborah aka Sneekbead

End of year pieces

I haven't been able to keep up with this year's challenge, too much has been going on in real life.  However here is a set that I made recently to go with the tutorial I wrote.Indigowaterprincess3 Indigowater

Week 50-Woven Labradorite Necklace

Woven labradorite necklace  I'm still playing around with forming woven wires into shapes.  This started with an 18mm x 13mm labradorite cabochon that was netted onto a soldered frame.  When I wove the 18 gauge wires together I attached the cab frame to the weaving in several places as I went along.  I'm not crazy about the ends that stick out though.  I'm still trying to figure out a nicer finish for them.  C&C welcome.

Enigma Earrings

Enigma Earrings by Joslin Jewels
As you might guess from my other posts, I
tend to be drawn toward richly colored gems. I am suddenly smitten, however, with this more
understated combo of pyrite and black spinel. The golden pyrite has sparkles within sparkles! The black spinel flashes with glimmers of silver. The combo makes fthese
earrings luxurious and mysterious all at once. I felt this gem combination was meant for mixed metals so I fashioned these earrings from 14k GF, fine and sterling silver wire. After I bejeweling these earrings, I adorned them with silver and gold beads. I then oxidized and polished them to
reveal the intricacy of the silver wire work for further contrast against the gold.. The gem and metal combination seems so luxurious to me. Length: 1 3/4 inches
