Week 39 – Melissa Muir
Once again I am completely off theme, but I just haven’t had time to work on the projects like I would like to be doing. These are my very first attempts at wire rings. They are okay and I even like a couple of them, but I still have a bit of practicing to do.
Beaded Ring – Week 39 – Sandi Hj/Pepperma
This week I’m working on several projects, and this is the one that was finished first. It is right-angle weave done with small sterling beads and soft-touch wire. I realize that many of you don’t prefer rings photographed on a hand, but right-angle-weave rings don’t look like much just sitting there, just a little misshapen loop. There’s more explanation of why I like beaded rings in my journal.
We’ve reached the end of the third quarter. Isn’t that terrific? I hope everyone here feels the sense of accomplishment for each and every piece you have posted that I am feeling. I am continuously surprised and delighted by the imagination and workmanship on display here. Whether you have been here every week, just occasionally, or are catching up, this is a really meaningful journey we are taking together, and I want to thank all of you for making it such a worthwhile trip.
Comments and critique always welcome. Thanks for looking.
Week 36 – Sparks – Ellen/rubystar
This piece fits the theme only loosely, in that it is a little spark of its fiery, larger counterpart, which I just posted. Where last week’s cross was six inches long, this little baby is just 3 5/8 inches long.
I knew that our Mother Abbess, who wore the larger cross I made for Sound of Music, would be soooooo sad to give it back to me. But since I had promised to donate it to the theatre company for auction, I knew I couldn’t let her have it. So, I made her a baby cross instead as a gift to remember the show by. This one is also small enough to actually wear, if she so chooses. Needless to say, she was thrilled and I didn’t have to wrestle the big one away from her after the show closed! LOL

Week 35 – Midnight Fire – Ellen/rubystar
Many of you have seen this piece on the forum already, so please forgive the repeat. I gotta catch up somehow, though, and this was created during week 35. It represents the theme of midnight fire in several ways to me, not the least of which is the fact that I burned the midnight oil getting it done in time for our final dress rehearsal! 😛
As you can see, it was proudly worn by the Mother Abbess in our production of Sound of Music. And let me say that it sure looked better than the fake-wood plastic cross that came with the costume! Everyone loved the fact that the Swarovski crystals were actually made in Austria, where our story took place.
As a Christian, I believe that the cross itself represents a midnight fire of sorts, from the fact that Jesus died on one on an afternoon that turned as dark as midnight and paid for our sins for three days in the fires of hell, to the fact that both cold, lonely midnights and hot, fiery situations in our lives can bring us to our knees at the foot of the only One who can give us comfort and peace, the One whose very symbol is that cross.
Now that Sound of Music has closed, this particular cross will live again to be auctioned off at a fundraiser for our theatre company, to take place at a lovely winery at the end of November. I’ll let you know how that goes!

week 39 Fire Dancer & Fire-Folk
Maybe I’m the Fire Dancer because I sure am having fun playing with fire and metal! Here is another fused piece, I start off with a vague idea and just keep working until the piece tells me it’s done. I used carnelian and jade for a pop of colour.
Fire Folk
Another cold-connected copper creation. (How do you like that alliteration?) This one’s got a faceted prehnite bead surrounded by a netted bezel with tiny brass beads. Again, thanks go to Eni for her netted bezel technique.
Ra – Egyptian God of the Sun
I imagine you might see The Egyptian Sun God Ra wearing such a pendant. No solder here, just cold connected. Twenty-two guage Copper is sawn, hammered, stamped, and heat-treated. A large citrine nugget is surrounded by a silvery weave of green jade. The tabs and bail are created from the backplate.
Summer heat
These are just the kind of earrings that I’d wear to the beach to go with my striped beach bag. Corrugated 30g silver was domed and accented with tiny kyanite beads. Finished with LOS.
Netted Cap a la Eni
I’ve been having a lot of fun with Eni’s netted cap tutorial. This was my first attempt with a turquoise drop. The red beads are white-hearts over 100 years old that I picked up in Tucson last February. Not sure if I should LOS it. Thanks Eni, I love this technique.
Midnight fire
A whole month behind – yikes! I’ve been making the jewelry, but finding no time to photograph. I’d imagine midnight fire to be white hot, hence this cool silver set hammered, domed and patinaed.
