Week 48-Winter Vine

Winter vine2  I'm the vice president of the Genesee Area Bead Society (noone else wanted the job.)  :D  At our meeting tomorrow we have the show and tell for an inspiration challenge.  We passed out envelopes containing paint chips.  We could either use the colors for inspiration or the name of a color.  My paint chip was a palette of greens and one of the colors was called Winter Vine.  I used copper and sterling silver along with rondelles of rock quartz, moonstone and a green mystic quartz.  The tiny green briolettes are tourmaline and the dangles are moonstone.  Thanks for looking.

Ruby Pendant

I was going to rework my brooch this week, but I got distracted by other jewelry projects. This pendant started out to be a reworked upgraded version of my art nouveau pendant done previously.

It was a surprise to me that it morphed itself into cool interlocking vines. This was totally an accident since I have been unable to do any vining previously, except in terribly tortured ways:)

I have long admired Iza Malczyk's artistry, and I'm grateful for her to all the inspiration behind this piece.

Since this project was not done with design intent, but felt more like a happy accident, I feel very unconfident about being able to do this again.

Not that I won't try;)

Rose Of Shannon

IMG_1953
I purchased Perri's Rose of Shannon tutorial and gave it a go. The first one I made has the Mercury Mist Topaz stone in it. IMHO…it came out so so. The next two I used CZ's for, and could see improvement. After stabbing my pointer finger several times, and making adjustments…I made the one combining sterling and gold-filled, with an Ametrine for my sister.

Thank you,

Deborah aka Sneekbead

Bridal Earrings

I've been busy creating earrings to compliment the Magnolia necklace
I re-created for a custom order. Since this jewelry is for a bridal
ensemble. I created four pairs of earrings for the bride to choose from. Since I don't want to be a blog hog, I will post only my favorite pair:

I uploaded the other three pairs to my Flikr stream. Comments please!

Week 41-Lampwork Frames-Edwardian Period

Week 41-Copper Coiled Glass Pendants I know I'm terribly behind…..hopefully I can catch up.

I've had these two lampwork beads made by Alana from Flameboyance Glass.  My original thought was just to make a couple of wrapped loops at each end and make a bunch of dangles with chain and beads on one end.  Then I thought….what are you afraid of…go ahead, make a coil-wrapped frame for them and add a couple of small beads, too!  I've admired all of the coil-wrapped beads, cabachons and pendants made from multiple coiled wires that are wrapped together on YOJ2009 and know how much work is involved to make these pieces.

YOJ09-41 Goddess Jewels – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk41-GoddessJewels Goddess Jewels (2009)
Constructed, cold joined
Sterling silver, Preciosa crystal

The opening of the Metal Arts Guild of Canada exhibition “MAGC 2067
– Crafting the Future”, held on November 7 at Arta Gallery in Toronto,
was a costume ball.  In connection with the theme of the show, people
were encouraged to dress up in character.

I originally planned to wear a costume, but then, in the week before
the opening, the issue I had been dealing with in my personal life came
to a head.  Although able to attend, I didn’t have the emotional or
physical energy to dress up.

My character was “an acolyte of the Goddess” – a jewellery maker for
a matriarchal society devoted to worshiping a Gaia-centred deity.  As
part of the costume, I made a couple of “Goddess Jewels”.  These are very loosely based on Bajoran earrings,
of Star Trek fame.  My version has a chain of handmade spirals, two
Preciosa crystal drops, because I love dangles and sparklies, and is
worn via an earcuff on the centre of the ear, and a spiral earwire
through the lobe.

I used to wear these a lot, and had forgotten how much fun they
are.  It’s been several years since I made one.  Usually only worn on
the left side, this time I wanted the pair.  Someone took this photo of me at the opening, where you can see one of them.  The whole set of photos from the show is worth a peek.

YOJ09-40 Knotted Tourmaline Earrings

KnottedTourmalineEarrings-Main Knotted Tourmaline Earrings (2009)
Constructed, cold joined
Sterling silver, fine silver, tourmaline

I was playing around with some scraps of wire left over from working on my Clip-on Earrings tutorial
I tied the wire up in a small knot – not quite as tight as I would have
liked, but it worked.  I have a “thing” about dangles, so I added these
little tourmalines.  I love the vibrant pink – they’re just juicy!  The
result is a cute pair of earrings that works for everyday wear.

More photos on my blog, a wrapturous blog.  Your comments are always welcome!  Thanks for looking!

Week 40-Discs & Washers-Sisi M

Week 40-Disks and Turquoise-Laugh I know this design is nothing new but it incorporated a lot of different skills….skills that I keep needing to improve upon. It allowed me to use my disc cutter which I'm getting used to and texturizing my discs with texturized brass sheet.  I riveted the turqoise and spacers onto the discs which I'm really enjoying.  The washers were texturized and I drilled one hole in each one as they were also attached to the discs with chain on the other side.  I cut the "laugh" charm, drilled a hole, punched the word. and filed the edges. I made all the jumprings on a wooden dowel and cut them with my saw.

Flying Brooch

Still playing with brooches…. I spent over an hour fiddling with how to set the stone, and then, after almost completed, I checked my sketches and saw I had already drawn the stone setting that I just devised.  ((Bonks head on desk…)

YOJ09-39 Oblong Purple Jade Pendant

OblongJadePendant-Main

Oblong Purple Jade Pendant (2009)
Constructed, cold joined
Sterling silver, fine silver, purple jade (dyed)
L 2.2 cm x W 2.5 cm

I got this purple jade cabochon through a Bead Box swap several
years ago.  Those Bead Boxes were lots of fun:  the idea was to put in
things from your stash that you weren’t using and swap them for beads
that other people had put in from their stash.  I was the Bead Box Mama
who organized the whole shebang for Bead Box North, which traveled
around Canada and the Northern US.  It was a lot of work, but every
time the box arrived on my doorstep, it was like Christmas Day!  I
managed to keep it going for about three years.

Purple is my favourite colour, and I’m always drawn to it.  For this
pendant, I wanted to work with the same sort of weaving I did on the Moonrise
pendant, but on this smaller cab.  Well… the cab’s shape proved to be
quite a challenge:  getting the wire to fit around the pointed ends was
very tricky.  After multiple attempts to get a pendant that hung
lengthwise, I gave up and set the stone sideways.  It ends up looking a
bit like a genie bottle :-)
