Melissa Muir – week 19

Crossed_heart  This is a piece I made because I was so frustrated with everything that was going on and I couldn't make anything look good to save my life. So I grabbed some wire and just began to bend to see what would happen. It is a very simple piece, but still somewhat elegant.

The beads are carnelian.

Week 19 – John Williams Waterhouse

This piece seem to pair up pretty well with "A Mermaid" in the color and even the nautical theme being that the pendant looks like a jellyfish to me. This piece actually took a long time to do and I believe it sat half finished for about a year. I could not figure out how to finish. The center stone, I believe, is an agate. The top stone is a smoky quartz and the accent beads are new jade and labradorite. Using the technique I learned from Eni tutorial "netted cap" and then winging it the rest of the way.  Heather

Jesse’s Pendant – Week 19

Jesse's_Pendant

My youngest daughter graduated high school last month and asked me to make a pendant to match a mint green and white sundress dress she planned to wear. She likes clean simple lines so this is what I came up with. The focal bead is a cracked quartz and is in reality blindingly white.

Week 19-JW Waterhouse-Ooh La La

Week 19-Ooh La La This week's submission offered a challenge for me…..one that I enjoyed and a technique that I need to continue to perfect.  I cut a heart shape out of copper sheet. texturized a heart shape on sterling silver sheet that was used as a backdrop to the copper sheet.  I used copper tubing and riveted the pieces together with sterling silver wire.  The crystals are from a broken bracelet of my mother's and the majority of the dangles are pieces of my mother's jewelry also.  The flower button was given to me by my friend to use on this piece. Week 19 – how did I get so far behind already?

P4280137

I'm a slacker, and proud of it!  I'll celebrate later.
I made this using Swati's tutorial for the spiral ring http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25665837
Good tutorial and easy to follow – what more could you want? I did bind the shank all the way around rather than just at the back for a more uniform look.

Week 19 – Simple Wrap Pendant – Randi/Dax58

LWpendant2

I've been looking to create some very simple designs to highlight some lampwork beads – this is one of the styles I came up with. It's a very simple design, but I have some customers whlike the beads and want a finished look, but not a "foo-foo" look.

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

YOJ09-19 Mother & Child Pendant – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk19-MotherandChildPendant Mother & Child Pendant (2009)
Sterling silver, formed, flame-worked
L 5.4 cm x W 2.4 cm

It’s Mother’s Day, so my piece this week is in honour of Motherhood.

So, here is the Mother, full with her Child.  The design is a bit
abstract, and I decided that it would not work without a bit of
soldering.  I’ve wanted to do a Mother & Child piece for a long
time, and, I’m pleased to finally have a design I like.

Happy Mothers Day to all the Mommies who read this :-).

More photos and commentary are available on my blog, a wrapturous blog.  Comments and critques welcome!

Week 19 – Couched Spiral

Spiral Pendant.web

It occurred to me this week that this technique I have been exploring is identical to couching as used in textile art and embroidery. Couching allows expensive, bulky or fragile materials to be attached to the front only of an embroidered piece, and is used for beads, metallic threads, and silks. It is widely used in liturgical embroidery since it makes the most of the precious materials favored for ceremonial applications. Long ago I took a number of classes in metal and silk embroidery, and so it is no surprise that this technique should fall under my fingers so easily.

This very delicate pendant is another couched piece. Excluding the bail it measures about 2" tall by 1 5/8" wide. The bail is herringbone, my preferred bail. I cover more about this and other events of the week at my blog, Silver and Crystals and Beads, Oh My!. Please stop by for a look and some interesting links.

At week 19, we are fast approaching our halfway point. I'm still experimenting, still enjoying the order of having this point of sharing each week, and still glad that this group exists for me to share. Thanks all!

Comments and critiques are always welcome, and thanks for looking.
