Week 52-Black and White-How Far?
My last piece for 2008 is a pin made from copper with a lampwork bead that I made in a class I had taken. Although my interest does not lie (at least right now) with making glass beads, I have an appreciation of the skill and talent (along with creativity) it takes to make glass beads. The dangles are head pins that I made from sterling silver and copper. I've had the small picture frame of the Eiffel Tower for a long time and thought this was a good piece for it.
To all of you……….it's been a great pleasure being a part of a very talented and artistic group of people. I've enjoyed every week and thank all of you for the inspiration that you've provided. I have a long way to go but hopefully will continue to grow in YOJ2009.

Snow Black
Snow Black is a necklace that somehow summarizes the whole year 2008 in my jewelry making – swirls and curls so often present in wire-wrapping and on the other hand new experiments I've already gone through like leaving silver oxidised to deep black and combining it with contrasting materials.
I hope the new year will be at least as successful as the old one 😉 I've sold this necklace today on 6:00 pm 30 minutes after it was listed in my gallery 🙂 Since we'll be building a house this year I hope my jewelry will still be attractive for customers and inspiring for other wire-wrapping artists (new tutorial is already on it's way ;)).
I hope you'll have a great time tonight celebrating the turn of years. May all you New Year resolutions inspire you to become more happy and enjoy your everyday life 🙂
Hugs,
Iza
The Grand Finale
I would like to say thank you to everybody that gave me comments thur out this year, I would especially like to thank Laura Holm for being such a great friend and always having the right words to keep me going, and to Lola D for helping inspire me to take the plunge and join YOJ. I think all the artist here ROCK!! I cant thank everybody enough for letting me be a part of history in the making.
As for my final piece, I was again inspired by another jewelry artist on jewelry lessons emon852000 He did The Royal Batik – Bracelet and later wrote a tutorial . The bracelet I did is in 18g wire for the base and 26g for the coils and weaving, I used lots of beads amethyst, perdiot, and citrine roundels, and in the center 4 yellow mystic topaz beads. This bracelet was a lot of work but when I put it on, I get so many complements form everybody that see it. C&C always welcome. Thank you so very much !!! I am looking forward to the New Year and hope everybody has a most wonderful year ahead with lots of great works of art flowing out to fill the pages here on YOJ. Linda Rosa my web site
Melissa Muir – Week 52
This pendant is one that I have come up with for a class I am going to be teaching at the beginning of February. It involves a little bit of coiling, weaving and creating spirals. I wish the picture looked 1/2 as good as the final piece. The finished piece is so shiny and full of sparkles. I wonder if I will ever be able to photograph my pieces so they look as good as the finished piece.
More pictures of other class projects can be found on my website (www.melissamuir.com) and on my design journal (design.kcjewelbox.com.)
As always, I would love to have any comments or suggestions.
I haven't been on theme and sadly, rarely on time. But I have a piece for every 52 weeks. This next year my goal is to write one tutorial a month and take my work to the next level. I have quite the task set out for myself, but I am looking forward to it. Thank you again for all of your support as I continue to learn how to make jewelry.
Have a wonderful new year everyone!
Week 52 – Copper Vortex – Randi/Dax58
2008 was a really bad year in a lot of ways, but the 2008 YOJ was great – congrats to us all that participated and stretched our creative sides a bit!
These pieces were the outcome of an an informal challenge to create jewelry from 12" of 10g wire. I have some 10g silver, but I wanted to check out a design idea in copper first – to make a 3D vortex
spiral! I used a little silver tubing for rivets (how
predictable of me!), and some lighter wire for simple bail and ear
wires, otherwise it is all 10g. The pendant took about 5", and the
earrings took about 3" each, so both pieces come under the 12"
challenge restrictions.
The basic how to: Make spirals, hammer.
Anneal alot between hammering, manipulate lightly to overlap, and dap. Forge the outer edge to create
light ruffle shape. Anneal/dap/hammer/forge/repeat until happy. Add
tube rivet. LOS, clean, brush… all done!
Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry. Thanks, Randi

Prayer Box Pendant
This is made with sterling silver sheet. I have etched the inside of
the box with a sacred Indian symbol called the "Sri Yantra". It is a
symbol of manifestation, healings, and Divine blessings. The lid of the
box has 7 petals sawed into it. I have hand made the prong basket, and
set a 36 carat lemon yellow Topaz in it. Topaz is said to be a very
powerful stone in aiding manifestation, healing, abundance and it is
also said to bring much joy to the wearer. I have bezel set 7 small
Lapis Lazuli cabochons around the Topaz.
The way I will use it
is, I will write down my prayers for anyone in a small piece of paper,
and will put it in inside my pendant. The length of the chain makes the
pendant hang right at my heart. This way, anyone I pray for, will
always be within the healing energies of the heart center.
The chain is a single viking knit, made in 24 gauge sterling silver wire.
More photos in my blog.
Black & White
Black Tie
I became infatuated with these earrings once I completed them…it was hard to put them in my Etsy shop. =) To get over it I made myself a pair…LoL! =D
For the black I bezel set onyx cabs. Once the bezels were made I soldered jump-rings top and bottom. Not only did I want movement when worn…I wanted to add white coin pearls to the bottom of each earring.
Thank you…and thank you for a wonderful year!

“Honestly, Here I Am!”
The black and white lampworked beads in this bracelet were created by Becky of Becklin Beads, found online. However, they started out as lentil shaped and I changed them. I wanted the three of them to fit across the top of my wrist. Ultimately, they lost their round sides and one of them patiently waits on my bench to be given life in another piece of jewelry. Perhaps it will be a ring. I added rectangular 24 gauge silver spacers and 18 gauge twisted wire to complete the simple, black and white look of "Honestly, Here I Am!" Carolyn aka Lily and Iris
