Week 8 – Melissa Muir
This is another class that I will be teaching this next month. It is Filigree style, but not true filigree. I just used twisted 21 gauge wire. I balled up fine silver for each of the small balls.
Week 8-Beads, Beads and More Beads-Journee
I know, I know….I'm behind. My piece this week was a take-off of Anne Quinlan's piece called "Mischief" featured in the Winter 2009 Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine. The dangles are vintage (except for the crystals). I really had fun wih this piece and plan on making another similar one with a different theme.
I would appreciate some riveting tips which I'm sure someone can provide in this talented group…..it seems that I flattened my little screws to the point where you can tell they're screws. Other than using a lighter touch with the hammer, is there anything else I can do?
Visit me at Perles and Life if you get a chance.
Beads beads beads…..
I had this done on time but have had very little time on the computer sharing with the whole family is getting crazy …. if I sell enough jewelry I want my own computer!!! Here is beads beads beads its a wire wrapped greenline quartz and strung with sterling and green line beads with green adventurine beads….
Wk 8 – hoops
I fell off the photo wagon (and not just jewellery either) but I'm trying to catch up. These are one of several pairs of hoops I made that week with 3mm swarovski embellishments.
C&C always appreciated. My Creativity Journal has the same photo this time.
Week 8 Beads and More
A few weeks ago I made a bracelet to wear to a wedding. I didn't like it so I took it apart afterward and was left with about a gazillion little wrapped gemstones to do something with. So this remake was inspired by Natalia and I like it better. The big green beads are tourmalinated quartz with one oval labradorite thrown in. The labradorite has lots of green flash which I couldn't capture in the picture. The bead soup on the ring includes pearl, labradorite, green onyx, green amethyst, hessonite, phrenite and peridot. Thanks for looking.
Beads, Beads, and More Beads
Or should I say gems, gems, and more gems! These are my Sangria earrings. A yummy and refreshing spirited punch of wine-red garnets garnished with tangerine carnelian, lemon citrine, and lime peridot. Made with sterling and fine silver and hand made earwires. They hang 2 1/8 inches long. As always, more photos in my etsy shop: joslinjewels.etsy.com.
Beads, beads and more beads.
Pearl Pendant
Using a 20mm coin pearl as the focus for this pendant I decided to bezel set the pearl.
With bezel wire measured to fit…it was soldered together then into the pickle it went. While waiting for it I sketched an idea on graph paper to create a template
The template was adhered to the 28 gauge sheet by using rubber cement. Once it had set up I cut the piece away from the sheet using metal sheers. I then used a jeweler's saw to follow the design's lines to remove the excess sheet.
To cut the inside portion out I used a center punch to mark the spot where a hole would be drilled. Once drilled the blade on the jeweler's saw was loosened and inserted in the hole…then the blade was tightened back up in the saw. Following the line with the saw the sheet was removed.
With the bezel wire in place other wire was added to create some adornment along with a bail. Tube rivets were put in place for a clean look from which the coral and turquoise hang.
The final touch was applying liver of sulfur with a Q-tip.
Thank you,
Deborah aka Sneekbead
Week 8- bangles
Something else from my party. Three bangles that started as 12 gauge wire, formed, soldered, filed and polished. Then I realized that they aren't exactly the same size, just a little off… hmmm, okay, lets add something that holds them and makes them seem more cohesive.. I took 22 guage silver sheet and cut a retangle, formed a circle, solder and then added the grandules as an accent. What I like: love the sound and happy with the handcrafted tube. what I don't like, should have been more careful with size!
Week 8 – Turks Head Ring – Randi/Dax58
This weekend, I was thrilled to take a workshop w/Loren Damewood on the
Turks Head knot ring – he is a real traveling instructor, and was
teaching in the local area, so I jumped at the chance.I cannot believe
how this is constructed with one single length of wire… and I cannot
believe I created it!! For reference, the ring is a 5 lead,
9 bight Turks Head ring, made with 20g fine silver wire. It wound up being a little big for me (smaller rings are harder to start with), so I dapped it a little in a steel block, which curved the top and bottom edge inward a bit, flattening out the original curves on the top and bottom, but I like the look, and besides, now it fits! I also antiqued it and gave it a nice buff finish. I am thrilled with the results (imperfections and all!), especially since this was my first piece in this type of technique, and I am sure that I will be creating many more of these rings! If this is a
technique you might be interested in, I very strongly suggest trying to
catch Loren on his travels… he is a patient and generous instructor, a
fine jewelry artist, and an all around really nice guy!
Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry. Thanks, Randi
Week 8 – Crystals & More Crystals
Here is a necklace that I created using various shades of purples crystals and individually hung them on a circle chain. I included a Amethyst CZ enhancer that can be worn with or without the necklace.
