Week 35-Copper Viking Knit Necklace

Kazuri copper viking Kazuri copper viking2 When I'm at shows I often work on a piece of Viking knit to keep my hands busy.  I ended up with this long piece of copper so I pulled it and pulled it until it bacame a neck chain.  I made the end cones with 18 gauge wire wrapped around my round nose pliers.  I added a slide made with a Kazuri bead and a large smoky quartz drop.  Then I lightly oxidized everything.  I'm not too sure about the hanger-I'm thinking I would like to see the pendant sitting a little closer to the chain.  C&C welcome.  If you're not familiar with Kazuri beads, take a minute to read the story here.

I am now officially caught up!

Wee 32-Eduard Manet-Weaving Copper

Week 32-Copper Weave I think I'm getting better at it….weaving with wire, that is!  The frame was made with 16 gauge copper and the weaving with 24 gauge copper.

Week 31-Elisabethan Age-Julie’s Bracelet

Week 31-Julie This was made for a friend at work who was leaving.  The Viking Knit was done in copper and the copper sheet that was cut to look like an ID bracelet is 22 gauge copper with Julie's name stamped on it.   The spiral charm is 14 gauge copper and flattened.  I then tumbled it.

Week 34-Netted Pendant

Garnet dreamcatcher I had some requests to teach a class on this pendant but I had to modify it because the original was soldered.  I did a fancier version of it with garnets but decided that it couldn't be done in a three hour class.  So I went back to the original and this is the sample that I made with mystic quartz beads-not a really good choice because they don't show up.   I also had to make it again because I totally forgot how I did it.   This measures just a tad over an inch in diameter.

Week 33-Labradorite Earrings

Just some simple earrings that I made from some outstanding labradorite drops from Sapphire Garden. I had a show last weekend and wanted to make up some earrings that feature beautiful stones but still keep them in a reasonable price range.  Thanks for looking.

Week 32?

I've lost track.  I've let myself get so behind and I don't even look at the themes anymore.  LOL  This one borrows an idea from our own Deborah Gray-Wurz.  I learned how to make these beaded beads from Mary Dugas from our local bead guild.  It's the only thing I know how to bead and, for someone who resisted learning for as long as I did, I had great fun making them.   So I combined this one with a section of leftover Viking Knit and some large silver beads to make this bangle.

Week 34 – Rhodonite Pendant – Randi/Dax58

RhodoniteP1 This is  a piece I really like… it has a similar feel to my
“BrushStrikes” series that I did last year, but includes a beautiful
set stone. I picked up this rhodonite a while ago, and wasn’t sure how
to use it – but when this design came to me, I knew the wait was worth
it!

Week 33 – Gemstone Trio – Randi/Dax58

3BlingE2  I'm a little embarrassed… I came on to post this weeks piece, and realized I didn’t post last
weeks piece either! These are just very easy, sorta blingy earrings –
with small faceted amethyst, garnet, and bright green apatite. They
accent some brushed silver ovals, hanging from oversized rings.

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Etsy Shop for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

Moonlit Birch Earrings

When the Fall Step by Step Wire hits the bookstore shelves, the necklace that goes with these earrings will be in there. Although only the instructions for the chain will be in the magazine, I made my very first ever tutorial for the pendant. As soon as I see that the cover has changed on www.stepbystepwire.com ,the tutorial will be in my Etsy shop http://www.sneekbead.etsy.com

Thank you,

YOJ09-33 Boulder Opal Pendant – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk33-BoulderOpalGiftPendant Boulder Opal Pendant (2009)
Sterling silver, boulder opal
Constructed, cold joined
L 3.7 cm x W 1.8 cm
Private collection

I used to be very active in the Gem & Mineral of Scarborough,
and developed many good friends there.  One of them, David Bellamy,
gave me this stunning Australian boulder opal as a Christmas gift.  We
were at the club’s annual Christmas Sale, and one of the vendors was
selling self-cut cabochons.  Most of them were stones from Nova Scotia,
but a few, like this opal, were from rough he had bought.  I was
completely enamoured with the stone, but put off by the price:  $60.
At that point, I was still trying to recover financially from my first
failed marriage, and couldn’t justify spending that much on one stone.
So, I was absolutely speechless and overwhelmed when David presented me
with the stone.

I made many trips up to the Bancroft Gemboree with David over the
years.  He’s an avid collector of “species” thumbnails, and
consistently creates some of the most interesting displays at the
club’s annual show.

I used this stone for the prong set pendant tutorial I wrote for
Haliburton, but the setting really didn’t do the stone justice.  So
this week, I took the setting apart and remade it.  This one is staying
in my personal collection, as a reminder of a passionate rockhound and
generous friend.
