White Lightning Pendant – Week 37

White Lightning

I took a series of classes with Perri Jackson this weekend. She is a wonderfully patient and gracious lady and under her tutelage, I completed the next 4 projects. This one began as Perri's Aegean Waves Earrings but I only made one, added a twist and called it "White Lightning".

Week 37 – Victorian Era – Viking Links

Week 37-Viking Links I had a piece of copper viking knit that I thought  would make a nice necklace. I was intending on attaching the chain to each end of the viking knit and a toggle to the other end of the chain.  But then I started playing with the chain thinking it would look nice with the viking knit woven through it.  I attached a piece of jasper to the middle link to give it some interest.  The other beads are turquoise, matte onyx and lava.

Week 37 Paisley Earring – Sheridan Joslin

My latest earring design. One of the first necklaces I made while ramping up for my Etsy shop about a year ago was a paisley necklace of the same style. I was really pleased with it and always wanted to mak another, but I thought I would try a pair of paisley earrings first. The gems are ruby, tanzanite, and apatite. I live the vivid color combination. These are 2 1/4 inches long. More pix in my Etsy shop: JoslinJewels.etsy.com. Comments please. Best, Sheridan

YOJ09-37 Paua Shell Bangle – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk37-PauaShellBangle Paua Shell Bangle (2009)
Constructed, cold joined
Sterling silver, fine silver, paua shell
L 19 cm x W 1.5 cm

I have lots of supplies left over from my classes at Haliburton,
which I’ve decided I will not be using next year.  The cabs I ordered
were a huge disappointment, with widely variant thicknesses.  In
particular, the green paua shell cabs were paper thin, making them
virtually useless for wrapping.  Basically, they can be pressed into
something else, like maybe polymer clay, glued into a pre-manufactured
setting or as part of some other craft item.  Unfortunately, by the
time I got them, it was too late to send them back to the supplier and
order something different:  the supplier wouldn’t have been able to
give me anything else in any case, because I had already cleaned out
the stock she had.  The students who had to work with these cabs did
admirably, but we had to change the project to make it work.  Oh well,
lesson learned.  I’ll use a different supplier next year and put the
remainder up for sale as a destash on Etsy to see if I can recoup any
money that way.

The blue pauas were meant to be used for rings, but again, the
thickness (while much better than the green) was an issue.  They are
actually quite pretty, so I may try to make something out of some them.

The first go is this variation on my Art Nouveau Bangle, which uses
four wires instead of eight.  It ends up being a very dainty looking
piece.

More photos of this piece can be found on my blog, a wrapturous blog.  Comments are always welcome!  Thanks for looking!

Week 37 – “Man in the Moonstone” Pendant – Randi/Dax58

MoonP1 This is a very sweet, delicate pendant, at least for me! It is a hand
carved peach moonstone with great opalescence (impossible to capture in
a photo). The silver setting is hand made – just a little bezel on a
little teardrop shaped disc, with a tube rivet. The whole thing hangs
about an inch with the bail… I have a few more of these little "man in the moonstone" cabs… wonder what I'll make with them??.

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Etsy Shop for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

Moonlit Birch

I love Laura's glass, it always inspires me. =) The moment I saw this particular piece it brought back memories of Birch Trees standing amongst other trees in the woods during Autumn.

The piece made it into the Fall 2009 issue of Step By Step Wire. There you will see the steps I followed to create the chain. If you're interested in how to set cabs the way I have for the pendant, I've written my very first tutorial. It's available for sale in my Etsy shop http://www.sneekbead.etsy.com

Thank you,

Remember me?

Mauser_terrifictoggle I have been gone for a while, but look every week at the beautiful things you are making.  This is so strange because the toggle I am showing looks alot like Deborahs!  I guess in the universe things happen all the time at the same rate and some of us come up with similar designs the same week.

I used 16 g fine silver for the base and 26 g sterling for the wrap, highlighted with small rubies. Next time I am going to incorporate a ring on the round part of the toggle.

Week 37-Wigjig Earrings

Lab wigjig earrings Apatite and ame wigjig The earrings weren't exactly made on a wigjig but I did make the loopy trim around these on a Wigjig Delphi.  Bigger holes so much easier to attach than chain.  The frames are 16 gauge wire that was soldered, then shaped and hammered.  The earwires on the labradorite pair were inspired by Sheridan.  The posts on the apatite and amethyst pair were connectors.  I cut off one of the rings and soldered a post on the back.   Thanks for looking.
