Talk about being behind …

Metamorp Talk about being behind!  My goodness!  I have made tons of new jewels but I’ve been so busy with preparing for shows, working shows and trying to catch up on comissions that I’ve not done much more here than pop in to view the pretties as of late.

This entry is a necklace that I made using Robbie’s wonderful new blossom tutorial.  I just LOVE it.  It was so much fun to do that I can’t wait to get these comissions out of the way so that I can make the things I WANT to make as opposed to the things have to make.  UGH.  I sure like the money from comissions, but I prefer to follow my whim when making jewelry … which is why I am often NOT on theme.  LOL

When making this little pretty I found that I wasn’t too thrilled with my cluster of stones on the front.  I just couldn’t seem to get the balance right.  Then I remembered the spirals on Shay’s recent ‘little bit of sunshine’ pendant that she won first place with in the Metalchasers Spring contest and I decided to add few to cover my unsighty unbalanced spot.  The coiled spirals saved the day!  Thanks for the inspiration, Shay!

week 10- bangles

Week10_2 I love these bangles.  The beads were placed on the silver and then the ends are soldered, shaped and the wirewrapping was done.  One is two-toned.  I love wearing these and plan to make more

Week 10 – Pisces – not on theme

I’m not on theme… I’m not a fan of the zodiac and even though I’ve done the sign theme on other weeks, I just didn’t feel like it this time. Instead of doing some pisces fishes, I did some "angels". At least thats what they look like to me. They’re rather small but still dressy. They’re cute little angels 😉

Week 10

Goldpebble2 Not the best picture, but this is my first attempt at using gold. See that tiny dot at the bottom? That’s the gold! lol The rest is oxidized sterling. 🙂

Week 10 Ocean Jasper

Boy, I am falling deeper behind.  I am tempted to just skip a couple of weeks but I have all the projects in some state of completion.  I just can’t seem to finish anything.  I start it and decide something isn’t to my liking and put it aside in a bowl.  I have at least three bowls sitting there now.  I need to dig deep to figure out what it will take to finish them.

This in fact is another necklace from my bowls, but one that has been sitting there for about a year.  It is a colorful slice of ocean jasper that I fell in love with.  I have never tried doing a cab setting and my soldering is not quite up to it to try now.  It certainly wasn’t up to it a year ago when I started this.  So I came up with a plan to use cold connections but I hated it.  Since I wasn’t finishing my other projects I decided to pull this one out again and revisit it.  This is similar to my origianl plan but the setting is much simplified and I like it better.  The links of the chain are big double eye pins with some serpentine beads that matched the ocean jasper.  I wrapped the wire on either end to get the bead to stay where I wanted it to be.  I think I will need to wear this for a while to determine if the setting will hold.  I shaped the sheet sterling and drilled holes in it to accomodate wire to cold connect the stone.  I wanted to let the stone be the focus and not the wire.

I am still not in love with it, but at least I like it enough to bring it out of the bowl!

Beaded Plumeria – Jules

Img_4124 The whole reason I got into making jewelry was because I had certain ideas of what I wanted in jewelry style and big name stores just never carried what I liked.

One thing I want is pieces for my hair.  Something to make my boring ponytail stlye a bit more interesting.

So here is my plumeria flower barrette (my favorite flower).  Forgive my messing hair!  These are another gem fair find.  Super small czech beads in graduated colors of pink to white with silver wire wrap.

Periwinkle Pretties – Shaktipaj

PeriwinkleprettiesMilk glass is one of my favorite glass types. It doesn’t need too much embellishment, but you know how us wireworkers are…and a little touch of elegance never hurt any bead.
My friend commissioned these pretties for earrings after she saw the prototypes fom my first tutorial. She likes a very large gauge earwire in a specific shape, and prefers to make them herself. I think they turned out beautifully! 26 & 28 g silver with sterling beads. Comments are welcome!  Perri

Yes, you heard that right. I finally just got fed up with waiting on my web designer, and am going to open an etsy shop within the week. The tutorial for these bead caps will be all I offer at first, but hopefully there will be more in the future. If you are interested in being notified when I open the shop, drop me a line at the email addy in my Blog.

Etched pendant

I started this several weeks ago as my Pisces entry…it started as two fish and ended up as a stylized representation and is still unfinished…I tried to insert the other pictures before I "colored" in the background.  I am undecided as to how I am going to finish this etched piece…I guess it will sit on my bench for another two weeks before it gets finished.

Melissa Muir – Week 10

BluevineThis was a fun and time consuming pendant to make. It is sterling silver and another dichroic cab by one of my students. The bail is made by curling the top of the piece back on itself.
