Week 50-Spinning
This is my version of Mary Hettmansperger's Stacked Spinner Necklace from her Wrap, Stitch, Fold & Rivet book. I used different textures on each shape. I apologize for the poor quality of the picture…..I used brass and copper sheet. I have not tried Mary's technique using a sharpened screwdriver to cut a window out of a piece of sheet but it is on my list of techniques to try.
Off topic Kenya- This is Orange Menageries
This is dyed turquoise and copper. The largest disc is 2.25 inches across. I made this for my mother's Christmas gift. She liked it! I am glad. It didn't turn out anything like I had originally planned when I bought the pieces, Go figure! uGG
Mom’s Christmas Prez by Eva Sherman – week 50
I found the perfect focal bead for my mom who loves browns and rich copper colors. The lampwork focal bead was created by Joan and Michelle, aka 2 women on fire. Their beads can be found on ebay and also on website; http://2womenonfire.com/home.asp. The necklace part has champagne potatoe pearls, white opal sky blue swarovski accents and gunmetal coiled with copper wrapped throughout. If she doesn't love it, I'm keepin it!
Week 50 – Winter Pendant – Randi/Dax58
This is very "holiday-esque" to me… reminds me of both a snowflake
and a wrapped gift! It is an 8-sided copper disk, which I notched, and
then wrapped and overlapped silver wire around the notches for the pattern. The wire
has been soldered to the back to secure, and then the piece is dapped
slightly. I also added a silver tube rivet and a simple ring bail. It is hard to
photo – it has some great reds in the copper (achieved by the
torching), but it also reflects alot. I did a similar pendant in silver w/copper wire, but I need to do it over… it came out horrible!!
Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Website for more of my jewelry. Thanks, Randi
Kenya’s Kazuri Beads
My personal connection to Kenya is Kazuri beads. I have wire wrapped two necklace and earring sets. I showed one set earlier in the year. In this set the gold filled wire used to connect the beads, in Eni's fat wrap style, complements the gold, fushia and black. I like the feel of the beads and I receive a certain amount of joy using them, knowing that a family is living a little bit nicer for the purchase of the beads. There are many styles and colors from which to choose. Comments are welcome.

Kenya Culture
The focus of this necklace are the Kazuri Beads which are made by women in Kenya. It empowers the women by teaching them new skills http://www.kazuribeadseast.com/ . Each time I've seen the vendor at shows the selection changes and increases.
The only natural bead I've added are faceted smoky quartz on either side of the Kazuri Bead sections. To highlight the rich colors I brought them together with gold-filled byzantine.
Thank you,

Melissa Muir – Week 50
I finally got the nerve to make a basket setting. It is a bit wonky, but I am so proud of this piece. I think I know a couple things to do differently next time, but we will have to see what happens.
There are a few more pictures on my design journal if you are up to taking a gander. 😉
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts.
