Melissa Muir – Week 17

Amethyst_pendant  Well, after being gone for a long time, I am finally back. I was out in Utah for the entire month of July to help my mom as she went through surgery fro breast cancer. NASTY STUFF!  So please forgive me while I catch up. 😉

This is an amethyst that I purchased in Indonesia. The stone just glows. It is so beautifully polished and is crystal clear.

believe it or not, this is one of my scrap metal pieces. I love it when you get to make a piece out of nothing more than your scraps. 😉

I’d like to thank the Academy – Week 17

Wk 18 I'd like to thank the academy

Should I ever attend the Academy Awards, this is what I would wear!  It's my over the top beach glass neck collar.  I actually made this last year but never posted it. And since my new mission in life is to get caught up on YOJ, in it goes.

Week 17-Viking Age-Viking Knit Weave

Week 17-Teal Viking This bracelet was made for a swap I participated in.  I find doing Viking Knit Weave very relaxing and it's very versatile.  I used some beautiful lampwork beads made by Alana from Flameboyance Glass.

Week 17 – Rose Necklace

P4280136

I have been inspired by some of the trellis and vine jewelry lately, and they were all I could think of when trying to make a necklace at the last minute to go with a black dress with pink flowers…
There are parts that I would change, but I do like it, and it was perfect for the dress. Does anyone else hate Silver Black as much as I? Yucky, nasty stuff…

Week 17: My First Lost Wax Casting Piece

This is the very first piece, a sterling silver ring, I made through
the lost wax casting process. I highly recommend the books: Basic Wax Modeling – An Adventure in Creativity by Hiroshi Tsuyuki, and Practical Wax Modeling
Advanced Techniques for the Wax Modeler by Hiroshi Tsuyuki and Yoko
Ohba for learning how to carve wax. The books are project based, and
each chapter is a project. The projects are explained step by step,
with pictures. Haven't yet seen any other book like these! My ring was
made following one of the chapters from the first book. Mine has a tiny
"twist" of its own (literally)…lol…but mostly I have made it following the
steps given in the book. I know, I should have taken pictures of the
wax model too. But I am mostly in such a hurry that I never got around
to doing that for all my lost wax pieces so far. For my next one I will
take pictures of each step as far as possible.

Week 17 – Viking Age

Vikingage_1 Vikingage_2 Vikingage_3

Hey everyone, This is a necklace I made for my husband and it seemed fitting for the theme. It is the Captive Inverted Round chain maille pattern. I ended up using about 4 troy onces of 16 gauge wire. The mandrel I used was 7.0 mm id. Then I used LOS to finish it off. The funny thing is I tried to tumble it in my little tumbler and even took the necklace apart in sections but saddly it didn't work. So I ended up rubbing the heck out of this necklace. Boy my hands hurt and cramped. Lesson learned: LOS before putting the necklace together. 🙂 Heather

Week 17 – Coiled Two Tone Bracelet

P4280133

The center of this bracelet was from an idea floating around in my head for some time….it finally escaped and I'm glad for it! It fits somewhat snug, but that's to keep the focal coil on top.
Thanks for looking!
