Melissa Muir – Week 38

Iolite_growing
This is another piece I made during a class to show how to solder and do tube settings. The stone is a 4mm Iolite. The stone is so pretty and is a dark blue/purple. One of these days I am going to figure out how to photograph these stupid things so they actually look as nice as they really are.

YOJ09-38 Star Earrings – Dianne Karg Baron

YOJWk38-StarEarrings Star Earrings (2009)
Constructed, soldered
Sterling silver
L 1.5 cm x W 1.5 cm

I’m about a month behind in my YOJ
postings due to a personal crisis that has blown me completely off
track.  It’s been a very emotional couple of weeks with some highs and
a lot of lows.  I am determined to catch up, but it’s going to take
some time.

I figure the easiest way to get ahead of
the game is to focus on earrings.  Since I’m stocking up for Christmas
anyways, this is a logical course of action.

So… first up is a pair of Star Earrings.
I wanted to make a simple pair of stud earrings, something neat and
clean looking.  Making this design and trying to wrap the tail around
the stem would not have given me the look I was after, so it was time
to break out the torch.  Yes, Virginia, I do solder!

It’s been a while since I’ve soldered
anything, and I discovered that my solder is really old.  Initially,
the solder absolutely refused to flow.  I ended up melting the wire.
After I pickled the pallet, it worked better.

These earrings will be available for purchase from my Etsy shop.  To see my other YOJ offerings, please visit my blog, a wrapturous blog.  Comments are always welcome and appreciated!

Victorian Elements Pendant – Week 38

Victorian Elements
Another Perri Jackson class; this one was my fave, I learned so much! The elements consist of silver and garnet beads and 26 ga coiled silver wire. My girls are fighting over it!

Week 38 Remake of Riding the Waves

OK Last one for today a while back week 27 I did Riding the Wave Cuff Bracelet.
So I went back to the design to see if I could make it work with less wire, to be a little more cost efficient. It did not fit right.  So for this one the coils are done on a smaller mandrel which did save a little on bulk wise.  Yet it still took ten coils to get the look, anything less just doesn't fit right. I also add a clasp. I also had some friend test the pre-tutorial  and even though this may look simple it is not. C&C always welcomed Thanks Linda Rosa My Web Site  My ArtFire Store

Time Beads On

IMG_1637

On Labor Day weekend Dave and I were in Burlingame, California attending the Hooked On Wire Retreat. Dallas Lovett's class was a pendant called Time Beads On. To complete the piece I made a simple two-in-one chain. Then I got to thinking, and made the clasp taught by Barb Switzer to complete the piece. =)

Thank you,

Week 38 – “Circle of Life” Pendant – Randi/Dax58

CirclePa3

A silver circle, wrapped with silver . I love the symbolism of a circle
– completeness, wholeness, unity, oneness… This circle is formed and
flattened, and a half-round silver wire “ribbon” has been wrapped
around it, adding both design and dimension. The texture is further
emphasized with the light antiquing patina. The 1 5/16″ diameter circle
moves freely in the unique bail, and hangs a total of a little over 1
1/2 inches.

Comments are always welcome… check out StudioDax for more about my teaching, My Jewelry Blog for more on my FSOJ projects, and My Etsy Shop for more of my jewelry.  Thanks,  Randi

Week 38-Bead Crochet Bangle

Bead crochet

Bead crochet2

I have to start by saying that I am not a beader.  I truly am in awe of what some folks are able to create with seed beads but I never thought I had the patience.  But I bought Randi's tutorial thinking I might be able to do it, and I sat down the other night to tackle it.  The jig is genius.  I had no trouble starting it or following the directions.  I admit I did rip out more than a few rows when I ended up with a wonky bead or two sticking out.  That was in no way the fault of Randi's instructions.  That was me not insuring that the new bead was on top of the previous row.  Once I figured that out, it went smoothly.  I chose to make a bracelet with a clasp which is one of the variations that Randi gives in the tutorial and I love the result.
