Week 34 — Smoldering Embers
Nothing much to add to this title… Black artistic wire and glass beads. I bought them two months ago, without any idea of what I would do with them (the list of themes for the third quarter was not even available then). As it is, I could not have found anything better for this theme!

RA/Egyptian God Of Sun
RA
"Ra (Arabic: رع)(sometimes Rê based on the attested Coptic name and reconstructed as *Rīʕu (ree-uh-uh) also Phra, and later, as Amon-Ra, meaning literally "sun") was a major deity in ancient Egyptian religion by the fifth dynasty. Identified primarily with the mid-day sun, the chief cult centre of Ra first was based in Heliopolis meaning "City of the Sun"."
The pendant was made by cutting the symbol for Ra from sterling silver 28 gauge sheet. Once this was done I sweat soldered it to copper 18 gauge sheet. With my saw I followed the outline of the silver leaving a slight border. Then the bezel was soldered in place to hold the onyx cab…which I believe is 16×12.
A lot of sanding, filing and polishing went into the piece prior to setting the cab. Shaping the bezel around this cab caused me great pain. This is the piece I was working on when my burnisher slipped! =D
Last but not least liver of sulfur was applied to highlight the brow and under eye definition.
I wrapped a piece of 16 gauge with wire adding sterling silver beads to simulate a serpent…which wraps around the copper toned leather. Finishing up the necklace is faceted onyx highlighted with sterling silver beads and Swarovski 4mm bicone copper crystals.
The pendant measures 2 3/4" x 3 3/4′.

Jean Power- week 30- Eye Bead Necklace
Ok- I know I’m posting in reverse order!
I made this necklace weeks ago but really struggled to get a photo of it so it’s here very late.
This was a piece I experimented with quite a lot until I got the look I wanted. You can see some of my experiments and samples here.
I knew I wanted to mix herringbone and peyote stitch, it just took a while to get the bead, stitch and colour combinations right!
I still haven’t even attempted to begin to write up how to make it!
Week 32 – weirdlywired
It’s funny I’m posting this above Jean’s wonderful beaded bracelets – I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum in regards to my feelings of them!
It took me FOREVER to finish this. It isn’t that it’s hard, but oh so tedious…this is a spiral stitch rope, finished off with copper cones that I had to make because I couldn’t find anything else that I liked (or long enough to cover my ragged ends).
More pictures on my journal if you’d like to see more. Sorry to be "clogging the blog", but I think I’ve finally broken out of a creative funk that started after I finished a wedding commission in June and then had to prepare for teaching a four week class.
Thanks for looking and any comments or feedback you may have!
Thanks,

Jean Power- week 34- serpentine cuff
This is another cuff I also began back in July. It all started with wanting to show off the lovely serpentine cabochons, and then I added beads and sequins and it all began to get glitzy!
It’s a really nice piece in real life and I was so pleased it worked as I’d not made a shaped cuff before and it all got very nerve-wracking putting it together!
You can see the cuff and the back view here.

Jean Power- week 33- red embroidered cuff
I began work on this cuff in July. The actual beading only took a couple of evenings, it’s just taken me this long to turn it into a finished item!
I used a mix of seed and bugle beads, shisha mirrors and sequins in reds and oranges for a nice bright cuff.
You can see another picture of the cuff, showing the other side on my website.
Week 31 – weirdlywired
This is the "Impossible to photograph" necklace. Since it sits molded to the neck, it doesn’t lay flat and I can’t figure out a good way to show it…the challenge looms, eh? LOTS of sterling silver and this stone that I’ve seen called a several different things – maybe someone could enlighten me – Cross Stone, for the obvious reasons, Andalusite and Chiastolite. Are they all the same thing, and it just depends on the "grade" or quality/cut you’re looking at?
Lots more pictures on my journal if you’re interested. Thanks for looking and any comments you may have are greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Angie S

Week 30 – weirdlywired
Shield your eyes, lots of bling ahead.
Made on request. Twelve 4mm Swarovski crystals in blues and purples on a Pom Pom ring finding. I recently saw a how to in a Step by Step Wire issue for making the shanks. I’ve never tried doing them with more than one loop, but I do mine differently in the sense that I have all of my dangles made and thread them into the loop before finishing the shank. It can be fidgety, but works better IMO than adding the dangles after the shank is created…
More pictures (same dialog) on my journal.
Thanks for looking and for any feedback/comments you may have!

Jean Power- week 32- Cherry Crochet brooch
I’ve been going mad for crochet recently- you can see more on my blog – but this is the 1st piece of jewellery I’ve crocheted in a while. It doesn’t get much better than a hot pink crocheted cherry brooch!
Jean Power- week 31- Silver and Aventurine necklace
What a surprise- I’m weeks behind!
As usual I’ve been busy making pieces, just not been able to photograph them- so I’m hoping to play catch-up today and tomorrow and get right up to date.
This was a simple necklace made for a project for a future issue of Bead Magazine, it uses Sterling Silver components and an Aventurine donut and cabochons. It was really quick and easy to put together, and the end result is very nice, if I do say so myself!
