Week 37

The picture isn’t the best. This is a larimar (one of my favorite stones) and silver bracelet. Very simplistic.

Melissa Muir – Week 37

038I was playing around with creative stone setting and came up with this piece. The back has a couple of decorative yet functional pieces soldered onto the back and then I just began to stitch the front to hold the stone in. The stone is a Unakite.

More images of this piece can be seen on my design journal.

Pocket Rosaries

Plum_agate_rosary Labrosary

These are 2 very small 1-decade or pocket rosaries that I created.

Normally, my pocket rosaries include larger beads for the Aves than traditional rosaries, but I had these tiny cherub centers that are really too small for a larger, 5-decade rosary.  I have actually used them as earring findings before, but I wanted these to have a very petite, feminine quality.

The 1st is 6mm plum agate with a large freshwater pearl, capped with sterling caps and accented with balinese silver spacer beads…handcast sterling crucifix and center.

The 2nd is very luminous labradorite…6-7mm coins for the aves and an 8mm sterling capped round for the pater…again, handcaster sterling crucifix and center, balinese silver spacer connectors.

Both triple-wire wrapped for heirloom-quality beauty and durability.

Rose de France

I have had two Rose de France trillions for about a year waiting to find a larger matching stone.  When I found the stone it matched as close as I think I am going to get.  France culture immediately made me think of them but it has taken several weeks to get them wrapped.  I like the mix with the pearls and chain but I may just take the pendant and put it all by itself on a neckring.  Actually, I had made l6 links with Eni’s fat wraps and wore it once.  I didn’t like the way it hung so I cut it all up and did this.  The wrap is stark and contemporary, so that is why I may place it on a neckring.  Enjoy and comments please!!!

France Culture-My Heart-Week 37

The song says, I left my heart in San Francisco, but I think I left mine in Paris.  My husband and I had such a beautiful time while we were there and have such wonderful memories.

Week_37ooh_la_la_copyThis large heart has a huge hole….just perfect for copper tubing which I texturized.  This was a fun piece to make and it’s fun to wear.

Montsegur ~ France Culture

I think of the richest and most decadent when I think of French culture. Having visited Paris and parts of Southern France I have a love for this beautiful country. These earrings are a tribute to this very special place. The glass lampwork beads were handmade by me in the flame. Rich autumn colors floating with gold leaf and green shimmering dichroic glass. Each glass bead has been wrapped from top to bottom in fine guage gold filled wire. At the top and bottom center are faceted citrine rondelles also wrapped in wire for the finishing touch.

Dropping below in a cascade of sparkling autumn colors are small faceted peridot teardrop briolettes, faceted citrine teardrop briolettes and rondelles, faceted prehnite teardrop briolettes and faceted beer quartz teardrop briolettes, all wrapped on gold filled head-pins. At the very bottom are stunning, faceted elongated puff marquise citrine briolettes. Earrings hang from simple gold filled french wires. Thank you ~Laura

Crown’s Jewel

294b1294cI’ve made 3 attempts on caging this tourmaline quartz stalactite slice. Finally, I had to drill a small hole in it’s centre and hang it the way you see 🙂 I’m pretty happy with the final version and the three-dimensional two-side bail gave me a lot of inspiration for new designs. Other stones are mystic topaz, aquamarine, rainbow moonstone and tiny freshwater pearls 🙂
More pictures in my gallery.
Thank you,

Peace, Sincerity, and Truth–Fleur de Lis Earrings

Fleur_de_lis_2 I tried so hard to be on time for the "France Culture" theme, but I’m late. I’ve been so focused on getting pieces created for the Santa Fe Renaissance Fair this coming weekend (9/20-9/21) that I haven’t even visited YOJ in weeks. I also haven’t photographed anything in a while. But I hope that will change as soon as I get back and can start being a little more social again instead of just creating in a mad rush.

Anyway, I just couldn’t let the France Culture theme pass, so I created these earrings using 20 and 26 gauge sterling silver wire, heart-shaped kyanite briolettes, and heart-shaped citrine briolettes. The overall design is meant to symbolize the fleur de lis. According to one site dedicated to the heraldry and the fleur de lis symbol, silver represents peace and sincerity, blue represents truth and loyalty, and orange (the citrines used in this design are a deep yellow bordering on orange) represents worthy ambition.

I can’t decide whether to leave these as is or antique them. I suppose if they sell as is this weekend, I won’t have to worry about making that decision. 🙂 Now I’d better get back to work–I still have tons to do and only today and tomorrow to finish. LOL

Jean Power- week 37- new geometric beaded bead

More geometric beading this week and I’ve managed to finish the latest
in my series of beaded beads- it’s the one on the left in the photo. As
you can see I now have 8 of these done- a long way off my target of 88
or at least enough for a necklace. I think my policy of giving them
away almost as fast as I bead them is greatly affecting my stash growth!

Stairway to Heaven … no longer the Bridge to Nowhere

Bridges08 Okay, so it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything over here, and of course (as is often the case) I am not on theme.  But at least I am finding time to be creative again, thank goodness!  I have been swamped with the move, new school schedule, working full time and just dealing with LIFE in general.  I must have 600 unread mail messages in my box as I’ve not even had time to keep up with them – and I am usually very much on top of my email.  I’ve just been so upside down lately that it’s not even funny.  I just had a show this past weekend that I was not able to make any new inventory for, and I was really low on stock to begin with.  The show was pretty decent considering how low I was though, so thank goodness for that.  Anyway, I am so happy to be able to be creative again.  This is the first new piece I’ve made in a while.  I used some basketry work for the frame … getting the weave just right for the curves is a bit tricky.  If you look closely, you can see some boo-boos for sure, but if you take in the overall piece they do not take away from the pendant too much… at least I think. 😀  The peridot on the bottom was my first attempt at setting a faceted stone in a strip setting.  It was successful – and quite a bear to get that little stone to stay, lemme tell ya!  Alas it is set firmly in place, and for an initial attempt I am pleased that it is sturdy, though I will attempt to refine the technique next time.  Blue amazonite is the focal and it’s accented with peridot and blue topaz.  I’ve been struggling to find a name for it, but I can’t get the phrase ‘bridge to nowhere’ out of my head because the frame reminds me of bridges.  I have obviously been watching too much election coverage!  LOL  That’s what I’m calling it presently, but I’m looking for a better name.  Any suggestions are welcomed!

UPDATE:  Thanks go out to Valarie for the new name per her suggestion: Stairway to Heaven!  I love it! 🙂
