Week 8 – A tad late, sorry

Tripoli_necklace This is what I have been busily making this week.  Well not just this one.  Ive been flat out making necklaces and am now on to earrings to match.  This is my interpretation of Scott Plumlees tripoli.  I didnt buy the pattern, I looked closely at the pic and figured it out.  The difference with mine is the mobious flowers instead of two rings flat on top of each other.  The arms are byzantine rose weave.  This is copper right now but will be Sterling plated in the near future as I have found a reliable plater which enables me to keep some prices down.

Week 9 – Whirly Whirlies – Ellen/rubystar

Wallflower_pendantWallflower_earringsOnce I got started on these wallflowers, (from Urban Maille’s kit) I couldn’t help myself – I had to make them all! The kit provides you with enough rings to make seven flowers. They look great as earrings, as pendants and as dangles. Really fun… and kinda "whirly," too, which helps me be on-theme this week! Whooo hooooo!

Week 8 – Atmosphere – Ellen/rubystar

Parallel_chain_bracelet_w_wallflowerWell, this little beauty is not on time. It’s not especially on-theme, either!  😛  But I like it anyway!  🙂  My first parallel/helms chain bracelet with an Urban Maille wallflower dangle, added just for fun! This was really fun to make, except for the wee little spokes in the "wheel." Whew! But they make the flower tight and sturdy, so it doesn’t lose its shape while dangling. That Aislyn, she’s brilliant, ain’t she?!  😉

Leah Week 8

SquareearringLate again, and sadly I didn’t even manage to get a decent picture of what are actually very cute earrings. These have a bi-metal look, although the square components aren’t actually silver – I think they are aluminum or something similar, based on how light they are. The earwires are handmade by me from gold filled wire, and I wrapped the pearl dangles on with thin-gauge gold filled head pins. I love mixed metal jewelry since my wedding ring is gold but a lot of my other jewelry is silver – wearing pieces with gold and silver tones pulls it all together for me.

Dichroic Pendant – Beth C./bcweaves

Dichroicpendant4 This is a very sparkling and interesting dichroic cab.  I have framed the cab in 20 guage ss wire and secured the cab with 24 guage ss wire.  I think it turned out pretty well.  The wires going across weren’t as straight as I would have liked, there are bends where there shouldn’t be.

Atmosphere Sheila

Late again. Another organic piece with copper. The px doesn’t do the coloring of the copper justice or show the reds, blues and greens. Beads are polymer as is the focal. Forged 16 ga copper wire.Nkatm2 Nkatm2a

Eni Oken – Week 4

Gem139c

My fellow jewelry maker Sheila Hobson creates these wonderful polymer clay miniature sculptured beads. A long while ago, she generously sent me a batch of matching beads, which I had planned to use in my YOJ projects. I finally got around to making a bangle for her, using her polymer beads coupled with citrine and carved stone beads, all wrapped in goldfilled wire. Notice the tiny carved leaves and dragonfly, soooo tiny.
I hope she likes the bangle — thanks, Sheila!
Better late than never — now if I can find some time to make some jewelry for myself with the rest of the beads… that would be great!
To see another image of the bangle, read my journal.

Cumulonimbus — Finished Piece

Wk8_cumulonimbus_750
After researching the term "atmospheric" on the web, I came upon a picture of rolling thunder clouds over a city sky that I found most inspiring.  I knew instantly that I could use the shape of those clouds as a basis for a crocheted cuff. I have also found pictures of the hole in the layer of ozone over the Arctic area, which inspired me to make the button clasp with opalite.

Here is a picture showing my sources of inspiration, and the renderings.

If you look closely inside the largest sleeve, you will see oval shaped pearls (8x6mm) to prevent the "tunnel" from collapsing upon itself.  The pearls are not secured, and they move freely in their channel.  They also bring an impression of fluffiness.  The cuff is ½ inch thick in some places, and 1½ inch wide (the band part; the front is wider than that with the clasp at 2 3/8 inches.

Making this bracelet took much longer than I expected (I had not planned to put almost 2 hours on the clasp only).

Total time, not counting research and creative process:  9¾ hours

Total wire used:  161 ft (49,5m) of 30ga, 3 ft of 28ga, and 6 in. of 16 ga

Whirly Swirlies-Jacki/stefannsgirl

This week’s theme is Whirly Whirlies….  My piece is named Whirly Swirlies for the beautiful swirls in this eudialite cab.  I didn’t start out following theme, but realized when I got done with it, that it had all the swirls.  I also added some faceted amethyst beads to it for accent.  I think that this is the best piece I have done since I started wire wrapping.  I had fun doing it, but boy are my fingers sore.  I felt the stone was just begging for some bold wire so I used 20 gauge square wire.  I am normally use 22 gauge wire so this was hard on my poor piggies.

Comments and critques are welcome!!!

Week 8 – weirdlywired

Amazonitepyriteorangegarnetblackobsidian_1 New WARM indoor photo set up, now in use! Hooray – and just in time for spring and warmer weather!
This necklace is part of a set (I haven’t finished the earrings and the picture of the bracelet will be taken soon, along with a close up photo of the pendant). I used Blue Amazonite, Orange Garnet and Black Obsidian. The pendant stone is called Blue Amazonite with Black Gold Pyrite, I believe. I love the mixture of blues, browns and blacks, and thought a frame would be the best way to show off the stone. The clasp works well becuase of the weight of the necklace, but you have to be careful taking it off, since it isn’t permanetly attached. I’m going to redo that part… also can’t wait to play with this stone using copper…
There are more pictures in my journal, and I appreciate any comments or feedback you may have to offer!

Have a great day!
