MOMMAKAT WEEK 9: “Hidden Depths”

finally finished week 9!! Week 9 is the only week I’ve skipped, and that’s because I started this project back in march, and then the show season started and I just never got back to it. Originally I had a very kewl concept for the theme " The hidden meaning", and I wanted to do it no matter what, so I skipped week 9 thinking I would get back to it alittle faster than November! First I love the stone in this pendant, and all along I wanted to keep it for myself. I was going to make a locket with this stone in front and have a picture on the inside, and have dangles coming down in front. The picture would be the hidden meaning. I had the stone oriented with the flat side down… anyway, when I picked it up anew 2 weeks ago, I realized how great this stone cab was, and it didn’t need all that extra stuff to be mysterious… the stone itself has "hidden depths" especially if I flip it around and had the curve side down.. it makes me think of a cave with stalactite’s and a creek in it and maybe goblins are going to pop out from behind a rook any second…. This stone is so pretty it didn’t need any "gimmick " to make it sing. Now, I still fully intend to do a locket like that sometime, but not with this stone. So I went for a simple bezel… but I did do a tube for the bail and that turned out really well, I’m very pleased about that! Anyway, I’m now completely up to date with YOJ! Jean Power- Week 9- Copper, spacer and crystal earrings

Still more quick and easy wirework. I really enjoyed working within the limits of coming up with projects that only used basic techniques and could be explained with just text.
These earrings use wire, spacers and crystals to make nice large hoop earrings.

week 9

So very, very, very late.  I have been making jewelry; just not getting the pictures done!Week9_2

This is a very raw attempt at a perfume bottle.  it is way too messy at top and really

all over, but I learned from the process.  All sterling/fine silver, crystals

Week 9 – off topic

Cimg07331_2 I’m feeling a bit shy about showing this piece once I saw the two entries below me…the Stormy Weather piece by Sneekbead and Jasmine by Iza.

I made a piece similar to this one for my grandmother after find these beautiful turquoise beads at a gem fair.  I liked it so much that I made another one and then realized that I had switched the links around.  I actually like this one even more!

Before I could post it on Etsy, my #1 fan (Mom) bought it off me!  Full price.  My very first sale.  I am so thrilled.

I have 4 weeks of entires to post because I finally got everything situated with my camera.  So forgive me if things start to sound redundant.

The hidden Meaning – Late!

I am posting late, but it wasn’t my fault, I had it done on time but my boyfriend took our camera on a trip with him so I had no camera to take pics. I had no idea what to do for this theme at first until I made this. The hidden meaning in this pendant is that it was actually supposed to be an earring 🙂 It ended up being too busy and heavy for an earring, so I made it into a pendant. It was pure luck that I found a pearl with a teardrop shape that fitted perfectly! Silver, garnet and fresh water pearls.

Goodnight Moon – Shaktipaj

Goodnightmoonlos03I named this ring Goodnight Moon because it reminds me of my granddaughters blue eyes – they catch the light and twinkle in much the same way. She also loves the children’s book of the same name, so it was fitting.

The band on this is the same weave as "Stephen’s Choice." The frame that encloses the stone has sterling beads and faceted labradorite rounds. It lets light in from all sides, so the stone is showcased to best advantage. I do love this ring! It is maybe the third one I’ve made. Rings are a much more difficult project than you think when you start. This one is a size 7 1/2. I’m not as happy with the join of the bezel to the band as I could be, but it can always be refined.

Watch bracelets

Personal_watch_braceletsI designed these dainty bracelets for a show I did in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area the first of March.  My girls don’t like my jewelry and I was determined to have something they would like.
The hidden meaning here is twofold…one these are my birthstone colors and secondly the hope that they little dainties would earn me some money!
They are made up of 3 and 4mm beads with Bali spacers, using ruby, garnet; red and green and a fish for my faith and my signature butterfuly symbolizing rebirth.

Melissa Muir – Week 9

PendantfrontThis pendant is actually the remains of a cutout from another pin I am working on. This is made with a broken bead that one of my students gave me. It turned out kind of cool.

You can see a picture of the back on my design journal.

Oxidised Garnet Earrings – Week 9 – Amari

Hotspiceearrings5 I messed around for ages trying to add various beads to these earrings and couldn’t get them looking right at all. I realised eventually that all I was succeeding in doing was covering up the swirls and shapes that I liked in the first place!

Lots of scrap wire later… I decided to keep it simple with some faceted silver beads around the edge and added faceted garnet rondelles and marquise beads to the dangles, then oxidised and polished to finish.

Other work and more pictures on my blog and website!
Maz 🙂
