Week 30 – Melissa Muir
This bracelet is one that I did for a class I am offering. The shop I am teaching for wanted to have something in autumn colors and have a bit of movement. I thought it would be fun to have a bangle that someone might be able to make with wire while leaving the attachments easy to make and change. I don't know how easy it will be to change them out, but it wasn't difficult to attach them.
The bracelet is made with 14 gauge for the core and 20 gauge for the wrapping.
Week 30-The Affair of the Necklace-Precious Time
Although I have not seen this movie, I did read a little bit about it….I can only wish in my dreams that someone would want to steal my necklace.
My necklace doesn't have any diamonds but it has special meaning to me. The watch face belonged either to my mother or my grandmother and reminds me of how precious my time was with both of them.

Week 30-Cherry Blossoms
A bad case of bronchitis kicked my butt last week but I finally got off the couch and made something Saturday. I had to cut my cherry tree down last year and I miss it so I made these from a wonderful tutorial by Emily Judkins. The tutorial was very well written and easy to follow. The only thing I would do differently is leave 3/8" of the balled ends unwrapped instead of 1/4" so they would show more. That's what I did on the pendant and I like the result a little better.
Week 30 – Peruvial Blue Opal Bracelet – Randi/Dax58
I love the glow of Peruvian Blue Opal! This is a summery bracelet, made with Keshi Pearls, and the beads. It has a very "ethereal" kinda feel to it… the
beads have a great depth in the translucency of the color. And the new
style background – that's for my new Etsy store that I'll be opening
(studiodax.etsy.com). I've got the framework set up – I just need to
post the pieces and write up the descriptions…

Over the next couple of days I’ll be posting the work produced by my
students in Wire Jewellery 1 and 2 on my blog, but for this week’s YOJ entry, I’m
posting my teaching sample of the AN Cab Bangle. This project ended up
being quite challenging for the students and took an entire day for the
class to complete. That was something I hadn’t anticipated, so there’s
going to be a scheduling adjustment for next year’s class. What really
impressed me was that everyone showed a lot of persistence in doing the
project, which had a few tricky steps in it. One lady, Janice, was so
determined to do it – despite how much it was frustrating her – that
she refused any suggestion by me to modify it to something simpler.
That caused me to joke that she was channeling her inner German: “I VILL complete zis bracelet!” The class cracked up laughing.
The next day, Janice came to class proudly showing off the bracelet,
which she had attempted again on her own at home. She said that she’d
found the instructions very clear and easy to follow. She had every
right to be proud: her bracelet had turned out beautifully!
Rainforest Viking Knit
My addiction to Viking Knit has surfaced again. Using a piece of fine silver knit I had made previously, I finished off the ends with bullet brass. My accent beads are Rainforest Jasper and have copper bead caps framing them. Sterling silver 4mm beads and copper saucers are used for accents. The clasp is fashioned ala Connie Fox style.
I'm not sure if I want to liver of sulfur the piece or allow it to patina on it's own.

Week 30 – Bali Ring
Last week's ring got more positive comments here and on Facebook than any piece of jewelry I have ever made, so this week I felt encouraged to make several rings, experimenting with ring-making techniques and particularly with sizing. After I felt like I had a decent handle on what I was doing, I made this ring. I used a favorite Bali bead embellished with coils and small sterling beads, and aimed to make the ring to fit me, a size 7. Not only does it look cool, it fits perfectly and lines up right at size 7 on the ring mandrel. For technical details and more about my week, please look at Silver and Crystals and Beads, Oh My!
One of my favorite things about Year of Jewelry is the way that it encourages me to pursue ideas to finished products. It is so easy to play around with techniques and end up with endless unfinished samples, but because of YoJ, I now tend to carry my experiments to a finished product which is both useful and emotionally rewarding. As one of my Facebook friends commented last week, "You make a LOT of jewelry." Without YoJ, I'd spend as much time playing with wire and beads, but not make nearly as much jewelry.
